ELK GROVE, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team produced its best finish of the spring with a third-place effort at the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club on Tuesday.

The Titans delivered a third-round score of 283, which was the second best team round of the day as Fullerton concluded the tournament at 16-over-par 880 picking up five strokes following round two.

Host Sacramento State shot the best round of the day, 272, to move past Campbell and win the tournament title with a three-round score of 13-under-par 851.The Hornets have now won the tournament for two straight years.

Following Sacramento State was Campbell (862, -2), Cal State Fullerton (880, +16), Weber State (888, +24), British Columbia (893, +29), Grand Canyon (895, +31), CSUN (902, +38), Nebraska-Omaha (914, +50), Redlands (921, +57), CSU Bakersfield (925, +61), North Dakota (927, +63) and Drake (927, +63).

For the Titans, the third place finish was its best of the spring and its best since a third place mark at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate on Sept. 29, 2015.

Sacramento State's Aaron Beverly moved from third to first with a third round score of 8-under-par 64 to finish the tournament with a three-round score of 9-under-par 207. It is the second year in a row Sac State produced the top individual medalist.

Mark Cobey was Fullerton's leader in a sixth-place finish with a three-round score of even-par 216 after shooting one-under-par 71 in the third round. Cobey's three-round score and sixth place finish were both career bests for the sophomore.

Freshman Matt Wilson dropped from fifth to 12th after shooting 74 (+2) in the third round to conclude the tournament at 3-over-par 219.

Junior Matt Murphy and freshman Jack Ireland tied for 19th in the standings with final three-round scores of 225 (+9). Ireland delivered a 2-under-par 70 performance for round three to move up from 41st on the leaderboard, while Murphy's even-par round of 72 moved him up from 31st.

Senior Mark Jensma moved up 16 spots with a round of 70 (-2) to finish the tournament at 13-over-par 229.

The Titans return to action on Monday, March 28 at the Anteater Invitational.
