Titans Tied for 9th After Day One at Del Walker

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton enters into the third round of play at the 20th Del Walker Intercollegiate tied for ninth in the standings after finishing day one with a score of 22-over-par 582 at Virginia Country Club on Monday.

In a 12-team field, Cal Poly leads the way shooting 4-under-par 556 as host Long Beach State trails the Mustangs by just two strokes (-2, 558). Wichita State (+12, 572), Loyola Marymount (+17, 577), UC Santa Barbara (+18, 578), Pacific (+18, 578) and CSUN (+18, 578) round out the top five.

The Titans had an impressive showing in the first round, shooting 6-over-par 286 to sit at fourth place on the leaderboard, but suffered a setback in round two with a score of 16-over-par 296.

Freshman Matt Wilson leads the Fullerton contingent as his two-round score of even-par 140 has him tied for eighth after shooting 1-under-par 69 in the first round and following with a score of 1-over-par 71 in the second round.

Junior Martin Manalo shot 3-over-par 73 in the first round and completed the second round with a score of 75 (+5) to finish his day with a score of 8-over-par 148 which has him tied for 35th place along with teammate Marcus Mercado-Kiel as the pair had the same first and second round scores.

Freshman Jack Ireland was in 13th place after the first round shooting 71 (+1) but dropped into 35th place with Manalo and Mercado-Kiel after shooting 7-over-par 77 in the second round for a two-round mark of 148 (+8).

Junior Matt Murphy is currently tied for 50th place after shooting 5-over-par 75 in both the first and second rounds for a two-round score of 150 (+10).

LBSU's Michael Chen has a four-stroke lead at the top of the leaderboard heading into the third round with a two-round total of 8-under-par 132.

The Titans return to action for the third and final round of play on Tuesday.
