TUCSON, Ariz. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team ended its first day of competition at the Arizona Intercollegiate in 14th place from Sewailo Golf Club on Friday.

The Titans finished play at 37-over-par as the action was suspended due to darkness with most teams through 14 to 17 holes of the second round.

Fullerton fired a first-round score of 305 to complete the day with a total score of 574 as four of Fullerton's five participants completed 16 holes in the second round.

Washington, currently ranked 23rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, leads the field at 9-under (510), two shots better than No. 10 Texas for the lead. No. 21 California (+3), New Mexico (+7) and UTEP (+20) round out the top five.
Freshman Jack Ireland leads the Titans in a tie for 23rd place shooting a 5-over-par 139 thru 16 holes in the second round, as well as, a first-round score of 3-over-par 74 and one eagle.
 

Fellow rookie Matt Wilson trails Ireland by two strokes with a score of 7-over-par 141 thru 16 holes which included a first-round score of 2-over-par 73. Wilson is tied for 35th overall in the field and produced three birdies on the day.

 

Wilson is closely followed by senior Nico Mendoza as his score of 142 (+8) has him tied for 43rd in the overall field after shooting a 5-over-par 76 in the first round with three birdies made throughout the day. He also completed 16 holes in the second round.

 

Redshirt senior Mark Jensma is tied for 76th in the field after shooting a score of 153 (+18)

 

Junior Matt Murphy's score of 22-over-par 153 has him in 80th place in the overall field after he fired a first-round score of 82 (+11).

 

The Titans will complete the second round on Saturday morning, before competing in the final round.
