Host of Titans Earn Top All-Big West Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano has been named the 2014 Big West Men's Golf Player of the Year, as selected by the nine league head coaches. Titan Head Coach Jason Drotter also earned his second-straight Big West Men's Golf Coach of the Year honor, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.

Anguiano becomes the first Titan to garner the player of the year accolade, pacing the Big West Conference with a 69.72 stroke average. Over the course of the 2013-14 season, the senior from Whittier, Calif., tallied nine top-five finishes, including two individual medalist honors and a tie for second place at the conference championship.

Also selected on the First Team All-Big West, Anguiano became the first Titan to claim an individual championship at the Folino Invitational, hosted by Fullerton on Feb. 17-18. He was also the only conference golfer to claim the Big West Golfer of the Month honor multiple times, recognized on three occasions for the months of September, February and March.

Drotter earned his second-straight Big West Coach of the Year accolade after leading the Titans to nine top-five finishes in 11 events this season. After capturing its second consecutive conference title, Fullerton will make its first trip to the NCAA Division I Regionals since the program was reinstated during the 2009-10 season. Selected as the No. 10 seed in the bracket, Drotter will lead the Titans to the Sugar Grove Regionals at the Rich Harvest Farms Country Club in the three-day postseason tournament on May 15-17.

Joining Anguiano on the First Team All-Big West was junior Ryan Tetrault and senior Corey Gard.

Tetrault carded six top-10 finishes this season while posting the team's second lowest stroke average of 70.81. The native of Villa Park, Calif., used the Warrior Princeville Makai Invite on Nov. 4-7 to mark both his career best low round of 65 and low 54-hole score of 205.

Gard, also a fellow native of Villa Park, Calif., shot himself to eight top-20 finishes this season, boasting a season-best fifth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 21-22. Gard is currently ranked in the top-five in both career rounds played and top-10 finishes since the reinstatement of the program.

With the trio of Titans on the All-Big West First Team list is Big West Championship individual medalist Matt Hansen (UC Davis), Kevin Lee (Long Beach State) and Pete Fernandez (UC Irvine). Justin De Los Santos (Cal Poly) earned Big West Men's Golf Freshman of the Year.
