Titans Stable in Second Place After Day Two at El Macero

EL MACERO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its second day of competition in second place in the El Macero Classic at the El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif., on Saturday. Fullerton's Mark Anguiano continues to headline the individual leaderboard concluding the day in first place.


While shooting a 3-under-par 285 first round, the Titans didn't move up nor down in the team standings after chalking up a second round 7-over-par 295 to conclude the day with a total score of (+4, 580). Heading into the final 18 holes, Fullerton is currently 18 strokes out of the overall lead.


After day two, the Titans are trailing overall leader UC Davis (-14, 562), while followed by Sacramento State (+7, 583), Grand Canyon (+8, 584), Colorado State (+18, 594) and Cal Poly (+18, 594) to round out the top-five.


With a total score of 65 (-7) through the first round, senior Anguiano followed up with a second round even-par 72 to conclude day two in first place with a mark of (-7, 137). The Whittier, Calif., native leads the UC Davis tandem of Luke Vivolo (-6, 138) and Matt Hansen (-3, 141) in the individual leaderboard.


Junior Ryan Tetrault followed yesterday's first round score of 71 (-1), with a second round 74 (+2) to produce an overall score of (+1, 145), dropping four slots into a tie for eighth place.


Senior Corey Gard chipped in a second round 2-over-par 74 after a first round 73 (+1), to finish tied for 13th place and posting a combined score of 3-over-par 147.


Freshman Kyle De Silva followed his first round score of 4-over-par 76 with a 78 (+6) in the second round, capping his day two total score at 10-over-par 154 to finish tied for 46th place.


Continuing team competition for the first time in the spring as a member of the five-man rotation, senior Scott Rubzin showed the most improvement after the first day of play shooting a second round of 75 (+3), 7-strokes better than his first round mark of 82 (+7). Rubzin advanced 10 slots in the standings to finish tied for 53rd place, totaling two rounds of play with a 13-over-par 157 to round out the Titans.


Fullerton will compete in the final 18 holes of the El Macero Classic tomorrow at the El Macero Country Club, a par 72, at 7 a.m.
