Gard Paces Titans to Second After First Two Rounds

Pullman, Wash. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team is 3-under par with a score of 559 and is sitting in second place after 36 holes Monday at the 2012 Itani Quality Homes Collegiate tournament at Palouse Ridge Golf Club hosted by Washington State University.

The Cougars hold a seven-stroke team lead in their own 12-team tournament after posting a 8-under, 552 in the first and second rounds of the three-round event. Idaho (+5, 565), Sacramento State (+5, 565), and Santa Clara (+9, 569) round out the top five in team scoring on the 70-par course.

After round one the Titans were tied with the Cougars for second and trailed Sacramento State by two strokes after shooting a 282 (+2). Fullerton then put up a 277 (-3) effort over the second 18.

San Jose State's Cody Blick and Washington State's Blake Snyder share the individual lead after two rounds of play. Blick shot a first round 67 and second round 68 for a 5-under score. Snyder followed his 1-under par first round with a 66 in round two.

Fullerton's Corey Gard, fresh off a successful amateur playing summer, is having a strong showing in Pullman. He was tied for first after his first 18 holes, but dropped two spots in his second round and finds himself tied for third among the 81 golfers. He shot a 4-under, 66, in round one and an even-par, 70, in his second go-round. He had seven birdies and three bogeys on the day.

Mark Anguiano, coming off US Amateur action, is 1-under after his first day of work and is tied for 14th after shooting 70 (E) and 69 (-1). Ryan Tetrault, also coming off US Amateur play, finished tied with Anguiano after a strong second round (72, 67, 139, -1). Scott Rubzin (76, 71, 147, +17, T53rd) and Josh Park (74, 77, 151, +11, T71st) round out the Titan team members competing in Pullman. Tetrault and Rubzin had the biggest improvement from rounds one to two, picking up five strokes.
