Titan Men Win Winchester Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. - Entering the day in second place, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team jumped ahead of UC Davis to come away victorious at the Winchester Classic in Meadows Vista, Calif., on Sunday afternoon. Fullerton entered the final round trailing the Aggies by three strokes, but shot a third round 286 (-2) to jump into first place and win the tournament. 

Third round's 286 was the best round by a team during the entire tournament. The win at the Winchester Classic gives the Titans their first tournament win of the year and first since Oct. 2-3, 2011 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. at the Firestone Grill Invitational. The Titans finished with a score of 868 (+4) after shooting a 290 first round and 292 second round. UC Davis shot a third round seven-over par (295) and nine-over par overall to finish in second place. Oklahoma Christian finished in third place with an overall score of 877 (+13) after shooting a third round 291. UC Santa Barbara finished in fourth place (+16, 880) and Sacramento State finished 22-over par (886) to round out the top five teams. 

With a total score of 209 at seven-under par, Oklahoma Christian's Sam Johnston finished atop the individual leaderboard. Johnston shot a third round two-under par (70) and finished ahead of UC Santa Barbara's Glen Scher who finished with a total score of 211 (-5).

The Titans were led by sophomore Ryan Tetrault and junior Mark Anguiano who both shot third round 70's (-2). Tetrault entered the day tied for sixth place after shooting a second round 74, but finished fourth overall after the two-under par performance in round three. Anguiano finishes the tournament in fifth place with a total score of 215 (-1). 

After shooting a three-over par (75) in the first round, senior Dakota Duerr came back in the second round with a 71 (-1) and shot even on Sunday to finish with a total score of 218 (+2). Duerr finished the Winchester Classic tied for eighth place. 

Corey Gard shot a final round 74 to finish five-over par (221) and good for 15th place. Josh Park shot a final round 80, eight-over par, to finish with a final score of 230 (+13). 

The Titans will continue play on Apr.28-30 in San Jacinto, Calif. at the Big West Championships. The conference tournament will be played at The Country Club at Soboba Springs.
