Titans Finish Second at Anteater Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. –After entering the day atop the leaderboard, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team faded in the final round on Tuesday afternoon, slipping down to second place to close out the 2013 Anteater Invitational hosted by UC Irvine in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

After 36 holes on Monday, the Titans finished the day tied with Long Beach State. Fullerton shot 593 (+17) on the day, including a 297 first round and 296 second round. The Titans shot 894 (+30) over two days of play, including a score of 301 on Tuesday afternoon.

Currently ranked 101st in the nation by Golfstat.com, Long Beach State won the tournament after a 10-over par final round, finishing with a score of 891 (+27). Finishing in third was host UC Irvine (895, +31), while * (906, +42) and (910, +46) finished fourth and fifth to round out the top five teams. Cal State Fullerton entered the tournament as the 75th ranked team according to Golfstat.com.

With a total score of 216 at even par, Loyola Marymount's Connor Campbell finished at the top of the individual standings, one spot above day one leader Daniel Chian of Long Beach State. Cher started the day one-over par and finished with a third round 71 on Tuesday.

Senior Dakota Duerr was the highest finishing Titan, after shooting a 74 on Tuesday and finishing five-over par overall. Duerr finished tied for sixth overall after shooting 221, while junior Mark Anguiano finished tied for 10th after shooting a third round 76 and 223 overall. Duerr finished the tournament with the most pars (37) and Anguiano finished with the second most (36).

After entering the day five-over par, junior Corey Gard shot a final round 75 (+3) to finish tied for 15th place. Gard contributed on Tuesday with three birdies and nine total in the tournament. After finishing second at the Sacramento State Invitational on Mar. 12, sophomore Ryan Tetrault shot a final round 76 to finish with an overall score of 226.

Freshman Mark Jensma shot a final round 77 (+5) and 234 overall to finish tied for 35th overall. Jensma also added an eagle in the tournament. Michael Choe, competing as an individual, finished the tournament with a score of 237. Choe shot a 78 in the final round and finished tied for 46th.

Fullerton will be off for a couple of weeks before competing in the Winchester Classic in Meadow Vista, Calif. on April 19-20. The tournament hosted by UC Davis will be played at the Winchester Country Club.
