Duerr named 2013 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's men's golfer Dakota Duerr has been honored by Cal State Fullerton as the 2013 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Duerr's athletic and academic accomplishments throughout his Titan career has helped resurrect a program that was reinstated in 2009.

A native of Murrieta, Calif., Duerr's career at Fullerton started during the 2009-10 season, the same year as the men's program was reinstated.  Duerr, now entering his senior year, has been one of Fullerton's most successful competitors on and off the course. This past fall, he played in all five tournaments, and led the Titans with two fourth-place finishes, while also shooting a career-best round of 66 at the Firestone Grill Invitational.

Also during the fall portion of the season, Duerr led the Titans by finishing tied for fourth at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate and Firestone Grill Invitational. Duerr has shot in the round of 60's eight times during his career and holds the second lowest 54-hole individual score of 210, which he shot at the Firestone Grill Invitational on Oct. 8-9, 2012.

As a junior, his season average over all 11 events was 73.50 strokes (total of 2,352), good for second best on the team. As a sophomore, he was the only Titan to play in all 11 events, and his average 75.19 strokes led the squad.

Duerr currently ranks third at Fullerton for lowest scoring average (74.66) in a career and second for lowest scoring average in a season (73.50).

Duerr, a criminal justice major, was named to the Big West Conference All-Academic team in 2011 and 2012.
