Cal State Fullerton Finishes Eighth at Arizona Intercollegiate

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team completed play at the Arizona Intercollegiate at Vistoso Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. on Tuesday. The Titans finished in eighth place, dropping one spot after a seventh-place day one finish.

Second round play continued Tuesday morning after it was called due to darkness on Monday. The Titans shot 872 (+20) over two days of play, including a 281 (-3) second round and a score of 297 (+13) on Tuesday afternoon in the third round. 
Currently ranked fifth in the country by Golfstat.com, New Mexico walked away with the victory after finishing the tournament with a score of 844 (-8). The Lobos final round on Tuesday was a score of 281 (-2). New Mexico was followed by TCU (846, -6), California (847, -5), and Arizona State (851, -1).
 
The tournament, hosted by the University of Arizona, was host to four teams currently ranked in the top-50 by Golfstat.com including No. 1 California, No. 5 New Mexico, and No. 24 Liberty.
 
Fullerton junior Mark Anguiano finished 10th with an overall score of 212 (-1) to lead the Titans. Anguiano shot a team best of 68 twice in the second and third round. Sophomore Ryan Tetrault (222, +9) ended the tournament tied for 39th after recording a score of 78 on Tuesday.
 
Junior Corey Gard shot 81 (+10) on Wednesday and ended the tournament 10-over par to tie for 45th in the standings. Redshirt freshman Mark Jensma also tied for 45th place (223, +10). Fullerton senior Dakota Duerr finished nine-over par overall after withdrawing from the second round on Monday.
 
The Titans will be back in action Sunday-Tuesday Feb. 17-19 as they host the Folino Invitational in the City of Industry, Calif.
