Bobby Brown to Return for Senior Season

Bobby Brown to Return for Senior Season

June 20, 2006

Fullerton, CA - Point guard Bobby Brown has withdrawn his name from the undergraduate list of the upcoming NBA draft and will return to Cal State Fullerton to play his senior season for the Titans in 2006-07.

Brown submitted his wishes in writing to the NBA prior to the June 18 deadline so that he could retain his collegiate eligibility.

"It was a real fun experience," said Brown, who attended the NBA draft camp and also was worked out individually by Phoenix (twice), the Clippers and the Lakers. "It was a chance to play against players from the East Coast and different colleges. It was real competitive and we had fun with guys on the trips.

"Basically, I was told to go back for my senior year and lead my team to more victories. I need to get stronger and get bigger and be more of a leader.

"I know what I need to do to become a more complete point guard. We have a lot of guys on the team that I grew up with, so it's going to be a real fun season."

Brown earned All-Big West Conference first-team honors last season and was one of 150 players to make the NABC all-district teams. He averaged 17.5 points and 4.6 assists last season as the Titans went 16-13 after a 21-11 campaign the year before. Those are the first consecutive winning seasons for the program since the 1980s.

"Obviously, we are ecstatic about his decision," said Head Coach Bob Burton. "This is Bobby's team and he knows he needs to become its leader.

"Everything about the experience was positive, for Bobby and for us. He found out what he needs to do to improve. We're very happy he went through the whole process."

The product of Westchester High School could become Fullerton's all-time leading scorer. Through three seasons he has scored 1,415 points and needs 462 more to pass Leon Wood's school mark. He cannot reach Wood's career assist record but could move into the No. 2 spot with 160 assists.
