Tourney Dunk Wins It

Tourney Dunk Wins It

May 17, 2010

Cyberville, USA - Gerard Anderson's dunk over Vinnie McGhee of Cal State Northridge in the Big West Conference Basketball Tournament on March 10 was a runaway winner of Hoops Manifesto.com's 2009-10 NCAA Dunk of the Year contest.

The tourney dunk which was triggered by a blocked shot by Ray Miller captured 87 percent of the votes in a fan poll in which Anderson competed against himself. The other finalist was his regular season dunk in Titan Gym on Jan. 16, also against the Matadors. Anderson's pair of slams were part of an original field of 16 dunks from around the nation.

Anderson also participated in the live dunk contest on ESPN in conjunction with the Final Four. But his "creative" attempt with an assistant misfired and his score of zero nullified his perfect score of 50 on his initial dunk in the first round.

Anderson was a first-team All-Big West Conference selection this season. He is graduating this summer with a degree in communications.
