Fullerton, Caif. - Guard Roger Guardia from Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and forward Steven McClellan from Edison High School in Fresno today submitted national letters of intent to continue their basketball careers at Cal State Fullerton.

Guardia, 6-foot-4, is a 25-year-old native of Barcelona, Spain, who led the Cougars to a 26-6 record and their first berth in the Southern California regional finals in more than a decade. He was the team's leading scorer at15.8 points per game and he averaged 6.5 rebounds on his way to first-team all-state honors. He was a unanimous selection as the most valuable player of the Western State Conference.

Guardia shot 42.5 percent from the 3-point line last season and 37.5 percent for his career, third best in school history. He ranks tenth in career rebounding (5.5 rpg), tenth in free-throw percentage (.738) and 13th in scoring (11.7 ppg).

McClellan, 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, was a four-year player for the Tigers and averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds as a senior for the County/Metro Athletic Conference co-champions. His older brother, Darshawn, is a three-year letterman at Vanderbilt.

McClellan was an all-conference performer and was ranked among the top 15 power forwards on the West Coast by Scout.com.

"Roger gives us a new dimension as a wing player," said Fullerton Head Coach Bob Burton. "He's a really good outside shooter and a great passer. He could play any of four positions. He's tremendously skilled and played for a great coach at Cuesta in Rusty Blair.

"Steven is from a great program at Edison High with a great coach in Arturo Ormond. Steven already has a Div. I body. He could have a tremendous Big West Conference career."

Said Coach Ormond: "Steven is one of those rare talents that can play and be invaluable to a team even without touching the ball."

Edison High is the same school that produced Bruce Bowen, who went on to become an all-conference forward for the Titans and a three-time NBA Champion with the San Antonio Spurs.

Fullerton posted a 16-15 record this past season, 8-8 for a third-place tie in the Big West. The Titans lost five seniors including their top 3-point percentage shooter (.461) in Aaron Thompson and their top scorer (12.0 ppg) and No. 2 rebounder (6.1 rpg) in forward Gerard Anderson.
