FULLERTON, Calif. – For the first time since Cal State Fullerton started hosting an annual Alumni game to two teams finished the game in a tie with a final score of 4-4 Saturday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

Freshman Gavin Kennedy started the game on the mound for the Titans and wasn't fazed by the star-studded batting order of the Alumni team as he struck out Cincinnati Red, Michael Lorenzen, on the first at-bat of the game. Kennedy went three innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two.

The 2020 Titans got on the board first as Jason Brandow crushed a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. The ball came off the bat at 104 MPH and traveled 426 feet, landing in the parking lot in left field.

Lorenzen showed off all talents of his game and why the Reds play him both in the field and on the mound as he pitched one inning while not allowing a single hit and striking out two batters.

Hunter Cullen of the Alumni team robbed the Titans of a possible run late in the game, making a highlight-reel diving catch in center field to keep the Alumni in striking distance.

The Alumni trailed by three runs going into the top of the ninth inning but were able to post three runs in the inning to tie the game. The two teams have never tied, however, the two times the current team lost to the Alumni squad they went on to Omaha later that year.

Fullerton now looks forward to the start of the regular season, beginning with a road series against Stanford on Feb. 14 at Sunken Diamond.
