Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Oakland Athletics
AS A JUNIOR (2014)
Led the team with 27 appearances on the season... Made two starts
and went 5-3 with a 1.64 ERA, which tied for the third-best single
season ERA in Titans history... Was second on the team with five
saves... Struck out 54 batters and issued eight walks in 60 and 1/3
innings... His 1.09 walks per nine innings average tied for the
eighth best single season mark in Titans history... Earned Big West
Conference Honorable Mention for the second consecutive season...
In conference, made 10 appearances out of the bullpen and had a 2-1
record with a 1.50 ERA and one save... Pitched a career-high nine
innings in relief on Feb. 21 against San Francisco in a 6-5 loss in
19-innings, the longest game in Titans recorded history... Also
tallied a career high eight strikeouts against San
Francisco.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2013)
Named Big West Conference honorable mention and Big West Pitcher
of the Week…a reliever and midweek starter for the Titans,
made 22 appearances on the mound and six starts, pitching in five
combined shutouts…completed the year with a 4-1 record, two
saves and a 2.60 ERA…totaled 55 and 1/3 innings on the mound
while striking out 33 and issuing just seven walks…tossed
seven and 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while
striking out five in an 8-2 win at CSU Bakersfield
(02/17)…in his second start, tossed five shutout innings and
struck out five in an 11-4 win at USC (03/06)…tossed two and
2/3 shutout innings and struck out two to record the save at Oral
Roberts (03/15)…tossed two and 2/3 shutout innings and
struck out three to earn second save in win at Pepperdine
(04/16)… was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after
tossing seven strong innings, and allowing just two earned runs on
five hits, while recording three strikeouts in series-opening 5-2
win at Cal State Northridge (05/23). After surrendering a two-spot
in the second frame, settled down and retired 14 consecutive
Northridge hitters, facing the minimum from the third through the
seventh inning.
SUMMER 2012
In 12 appearances and two starts for the Cowlitz
Black Bears (West Coast League), finished 2-2 with a 2.20 ERA
• in 28 and 2/3 innings, struck out 13.
AS A FRESHMAN (2012)
Was probably the most unexpected surprise among the
pitching staff • The true freshman evolved into the midweek
starter and proved to be a valuable long reliever • Earned
Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball •
Appeared in 19 games, nine as a starter • Had a 5-3 record
with a 2.85 ERA • Worked 66 and 1/3 innings with only eight
walks and 31 strikeouts • Pitched in only two Big West games
for a total of 4 and 1/3 innings with no record • His first
win came over the No. 1-ranked Florida Gators on Feb. 19 when he
allowed only one run over five innings of relief in what became an
8-5 Titan victory • Next outing produced a 4-2 win for him
over TCU (3 IP, 1 R, 0 ER) • His only win as a starter came on
Apr. 3 at San Diego State, 7-1, with five innings and only one
unearned run • Got the Titans’ only NCAA victory with 3
and 1/3 innings of one-hit, shutout relief of Grahamm Wiest in a
9-5 win over Indiana State on June 1 • In two NCAA appearances
allowed only two hits and zero runs in 4 and 1/3 innings • His
other win came in relief, 4-3, over USC on May 1 (2.1 IP, 0 R)
• Longest outing was a no-decision start vs. Pepperdine on
Apr. 17 (7.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO) • Losses came in
non-conference relief appearance vs. Long Beach State on Mar. 18, a
1-0 loss at Arizona State (5.0 IP as a starter) on Mar. 27 and at
UCLA (3.1 IP, 4 R, 2 ER) on Apr. 10.
HIGH SCHOOL
Was a four-year letterwinner and an honor roll student
for Head Coach Moon Cordero and the Braves at St. John Bosco High
School in Bellflower, Calif. • Was a two-time All-Trinity
League honoree his junior (.320 batting average and 2.40 ERA) and
senior (3.10 batting average and 3.00 ERA) seasons • Pitched,
played first base and served as the team’s designated hitter
• Was the Braves’ team captain as a junior and a senior
and was also a recipient of the team’s Cy Young and most
