PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton sophomore Marco Zaragoza finished 58th overall to pace the men while freshman Emily Taylor placed 37th overall for the women on Saturday morning, pacing the Titans' efforts at the 2012 Stanford Invitational cross country meet in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Fullerton men finished 20th overall with 510 points while the women finished with 539 points to tie for 21st place with Big West Conference rival UC Irvine. The host Cardinal swept both the men's and women's competitions with 34 and 25 points, respectively.
Zaragoza covered the 8K course in 25:36 to finish as the top scorer (53 points) for the men and miss his season best time by two seconds. Fellow sophomore Jayson Perez also posted a top-100 finish, coming in 89th with a time of 26:03 for 74 points.
Junior Anthony Castellon (26:36) and freshman Tim Reed (27:06) also posted season-best times in their third meets of the year. John Gilbertson of The Master's College won individual honors with a time of 24:07.
On the women's side, freshman Emily Taylor continued her torrid start to her rookie campaign, finishing 37th overall (32 points) on the 6K course in a time of 21:54. She has been the first Titan across the line in all three meets thus far this season and was the fifth Big West Conference competitor to finish on the day.
Sophomore Katie Bathgate also followed among the top-100, finishing 79th overall (72 points) with a time of 22:27. Stanford's Katie Kroeger took home individual honors with a time of 20:13, leading a 1-2-4-5 finish for the Cardinal.
