TF Sweeps Big West Weekly Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's track and field swept the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honors after strong performances at the Titan Twilight on May 5. The conference announced on Tuesday that Sam Schubert, Corey Gilbert, Tyler Hardge and Alysse McMillen were the honorees.

Sophomore Sam Schubert (Felton, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS) earned a victory in the 110 meter hurdles for Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week.  He notched a personal-best time of 14.41, which was the No. 7 time in the Big West this season.  He also competed in the 200 meters, placing 10th with a time of 22.86.

Senior Tyler Hardge (Colton, Calif./Summit HS) secured Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolades as she clocked a season-best time of 61.89 in the 400 meter hurdles.  She finished second in the race.  Her time was the ninth-fastest in the Big West this year.

Junior Corey Gilbert (Pittsburg, Calif./Diablo Valley HS) broke a 44-year old school record in the discus back in March when he threw the discus 178 feet, 8 inches (54.45m).  In the tune-up to the Big West Championships, Gilbert improved upon that mark with a heave of 184 feet even (56.09m) to finish second at the Titan Twilight and earn Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.  That distance is good enough for No. 2 on the Big West top marks list and ranks No. 17 in the NCAA West Region.

Junior Alysse McMillen (Reno, Nev./Reno HS) won the pole vault and earned the nod as Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week.  McMillen posted a personal-best clearance of 12-09.50 (3.90m), the No. 3 mark in the Big West this year and one that will put her in medal contention at this week's conference championships.

CSF will compete in the Big West Championships at Cal State Northridge on May 11-12.
