Split-Squad Action Ahead for TF

Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Meet Central | Bryan Clay Invite Meet Central | Mt. SAC Relays Meet Central

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field once again will be spread out among Southern California this weekend at three different meets. CSF will have athletes at Long Beach State's Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (Thursday), at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational (Thursday and Friday) and at the Mt. SAC Relays (Thursday, Friday and Saturday - held at El Camino College this year).

The Mt. SAC Relays welcomes teams from literally all over the country, including Arizona, Oregon, Tennessee, Iowa, Western Kentucky, USC, Georgia, Santa Clara, Houston, BYU and many others.

At the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, along with the host 49ers, the Titans will compete against the likes of Marquette, San Francisco, North Dakota, Wyoming, New Mexico State, Washington State, Hawai'i, Air Force, UC Irvine, Akron, Cal State Northridge and others.

For the Bryan Clay Invitational, CSF will compete against Michigan, Grand Canyon, Colorado, Seattle, Fresno State, Pacific, Utah, San Jose State and many others.

The Titans have already set four school records this outdoor season, with Nicole Clark throwing 144-11 (44.17m) in the women's javelin and Corey Gilbert throwing the discus 178-7 (54.45m). , Samantha Huerta now owns two school records as she ran a mile-converted 4:26.68 1,500-meter time and last weekend at the Titan Team Challenge (March 31) she ran the 800-meter race in 2:07.36.

CSF has already claimed three Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honors this season. Thaddeus Smith was named Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week on April 10 after he won the 100m (10.57) and 200m (21.00) at the Big West Challenge last weekend. Naiah Boardingham was honored as the Women's Field Athlete of the Week on April 3 after she won the long jump at the Titan Team Challenge and clocked team-leading times in the 100m, 200m and ran a leg on the 4x100-meter relay team. She holds the No. 2 ranked long jump mark in the conference at 19-8.75 (6.10m). Rasaun House was the Men's Track Athlete of the Week on March 6 for his 100-meter time of 10.44 (wind-aided) that is still tied for the top time in the league.

At this point in the outdoor season, the Titans have four individual marks that rank in the top-48 in the NCAA West Region on the women's side. In order to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round at the end of the season, you must have a top-48 mark in the region. Huerta has the No. 12 ranked time in the 800-meter race at 2:07.36 and her 1,500m time (4:26.68) is ranked 47th. Gabrielle De La Rosa's steeplechase time of 10:56.95 is currently ranked 46th in the region. Boardingham's long jump mark of 19-8.75 (6.01m) is ranked 45th in the region.

For the men's side, 11 individual marks rank in the top-48 of the West region. House's wind-aided time of 10.44 in the 100 meters is tied for 26th along with Smith's time of 10.44 (+1.8 wind). Smith also has the No. 27 time in the 200 meters at 21.00. Marcel Espinoza's time of 47.20 in the 400 meters is good for 31st in the region. Mason Guzman-Sanchez is ranked 21st in 110-meter hurdles at a wind-aided 14.21 along with Sam Schubert (No. 39) with a wind-aided time of 14.37. Jorge Sanchez (9:06.16) is 46th in the region in the steeplechase.  

Edwin Matthews' high jump clearance of 6-9.75 (2.08m) is 36th in the region and Anthony Applequist triple jumped 50-5.5 (15.38m) to be ranked 26th. Gilbert's discus toss of 178-8 (54.45m) is good for 25th in the region and Alvin Sung threw the javelin 203-0 (61.88m) which is 35th.

As we are in the 2018 season, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders is in his 30th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history.
