RIVERSIDE, Calif. – On a day that had many highlights, it was junior Corey Gilbert who stole the show, winning the men's discus event with a heave of 54.45 to break a 44-year old school record, Saturday afternoon out at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational out at the UC Riverside Track and Field Complex.

Gilbert's toss breaks the record once held by Fritz Hoffman in 1974 and has a great chance of being good enough to get him to NCAAs.

"I thought it was a very strong day for us, especially on the field," said head coach John Elders. "We didn't have many people in the track events, but I definitely saw some positive things there as well. I'm really excited to see what our group can do next weekend at home at the Titan Team Challenge."

Naiah Boardingham kept Fullerton's strong day in the field going, as she won the women's long jump with a Big West-leading mark of 6.01.

Laura Hamann also had herself a day, as she won the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.04. Anthony Applequist also earned a top three finish on the men's side, finishing third in the men's triple jump, posting a personal best of 15.33.

Alvin Sung was dominant as well. He posted a new personal best of 61.88 on his very first attempt in the javelin, which ended up being good enough for third. Nicole Clark was nothing short of spectacular on the women's side, recording a javelin toss of 41.72 to place second. Kelsey McKelvey wasn't far behind, as she finished fourth with a mark of 41.30 in just her first toss of the season.

Adam Leiva competed in the hammer throw and finished in the top 15, while Sinai Fatafehi produced a top 10 finish on the women's side.

While Fullerton didn't have many athletes competing on the track, Chris Malloy made his mark, setting a new personal best of 1:55.56 in the 800 meters.

The Titans will be back in action at home next weekend, as Fullerton will take part in the Titan Team Challenge.
