TF to Compete at USC, UCI This Weekend

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field will compete at two different meets in Southern California this weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the majority of the team will compete at the USC Trojan Invite at Loker Stadium in Los Angeles. On Friday evening, a small group of distance runners will compete in the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic on Friday at the Anteater Track Stadium.

At UC Irvine, Danny Ramirez, Jorge Sanchez and Freek van de Weerd are set to run the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gabrielle De La Rosa will run the steeplechase on the women's side and Wendi Leos is set to run the 5K.

Edwin Matthews, the winner of the high jump competition at the Ben Brown Invitational, will compete in the same event this weekend.

Adam Leiva, Tanner Miller and Patrick Ng will all throw compete in the shot put. Ng will also throw the discus (with Leiva) and the hammer (with Miller).

Josh Silva, Jake Smith, Vincent Perillo, Robert Miyoshi, Uriel Medina and Chris Malloy will all run the mile at USC.

Charles Kelly, who has performed very well in the hurdles races in the first two meets of the season, will once again run the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. Mason Guzman-Sanchez is entered in the 110-meter hurdles as well and the open 100 meters. Brandon Hasson will make his season debut in the open 400-meter race. Thaddeus Smith will also run the 200 and 400 meters.

Tatiana Bell, who won both the 100 and 200 meters at the RCC Quad Meet on March 3 and took first and second place in those events, respectively, at the Ben Brown Invitational, will run them again at the USC Trojan Invite.

Laura Hamann is set to triple jump and run the 100-meter dash.. Fellow horizontal jumper Naiah Boardingham, the school-record holder (20-3.75, 6.19m) in the long jump, is set to run the 400 meters and 4x100-meter relay. Iesha Hamm, a freshman that set the indoor school record in the high jump, is entered in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200 meters.

Shelby Noble, the indoor school-record holder in the pole vault, will compete in the event with Arielle Williams (Bray).

Kiana Clay will have a busy weekend as she's entered in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. Kyra Anderson is also entered in the 100-meter race as well as the 100-meter hurdles and long jump.

Samantha Huerta, Brianna Jacklin and Trinity Ruelas will run the mile for the Titans at USC.

Sierra Valdivieso (hammer, discus) and Sinai Fatafehi (hammer, shot put) will represent CSF in the women's throwing events.

As the 2018 season is underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 30th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history.
