Williams' High Mark leads Titans at Big West Championships

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton track and field team continued competition at the Big West Championship highlighted by a first-place finish from senior Steven Williams in the men's high jump (2.07m). Titan freshman Tyler Hardge also had a strong showing in the women's 400-meter hurdles prelims with a top qualifying mark of 60.19 sec. to conclude Friday's events at UC Riverside Track Facility.

Throwers

The Cal State Fullerton men was led by junior Steven Parsons with a fifth-place finish after a hammer throw of 54.93 meters, while senior Taylor Frank was the top finisher for the women with a distance of 31.96 meters. CSF freshman Trevor Gorwin used a mark of 15.33 meters in the men's shot put to post an 11th-place tally.

Jumpers

Titan Steven Williams carded the top finish among all participants in the men's high jump (2.07m) while Malik Johnson placed seventh after completing a height of 1.97 meters.

Steeplechase

David Ramirez led the Titan men in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for ninth position (9:28.76 sec.) while sophomores Arianna Fuentes (11:33.35 sec.) and Pamela Pelayo (11:40.56 sec.) concluded the event in seventh and eighth place, respectively.              

Hurdles

In the men's 110-meter hurdles prelims, Cal State Fullerton junior Nick Reynolds was the top Titan qualifier in fifth with a time of 14.85 sec. while freshman Mason Guzman-Sanchez concluded the event in eighth with a mark of 14.98 sec. to also advance. CSF freshman Tyler Hardge advanced after a fourth-place showing in the women's 110-meter hurdles prelims crossing the line at 13.86 sec. Hardge was again the top participant in the women's 400-meter hurdles prelims (60.19 sec.) while Reynolds qualified for the men's event in sixth with a time of 52.89 sec.

Sprinters / Mid-Distance

In the men's 400-meter dash prelims, Cal State Fullerton junior Joshua Gordon set the tone in third with a time of 47.30 sec. while senior Taylor Ros advanced with a fifth-place time of 47.35 sec. Senior Morgan Thompson led the women contingency in sixth with a qualifying time of 55.37 sec. In the women's 100-meter dash prelims, it was Titan sophomore Janaya Shorty who led the way with a tally of 11.76 sec. while the men's event featured a pair of CSF seniors advancing in Nick Sole (10.83 sec.) and Malek Walls (10.86 sec.) who crossed the line in fourth and fifth position, respectively. Shorty also had a good showing in the women's 200-meter dash prelims with a time of 24.10 sec. which was good for third and Gordon posted a fourth-place finish (21.38 sec.). Cal State Fullerton senior Tejera Dial captured a third-place finish in the women's 800-meter run crossing the line in 2:10.82 sec.
