FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men and women's track and field teams will compete in two meets this weekend as throwers and long distance runners will take part in the Steve Scott Invite on Friday at UC Irvine before the whole squad travels to Northridge, Calif. to participate in the CSUN Challenge on Saturday.
Fullerton will send a select few to Irvine on Friday, as Titans will compete in only three events on the afternoon. CSF will be well represented in the 5,000-meter run, the 3,000m steeplechase, and the hammer throw event on both the men's and women's sides.
The 5,000m run will feature Donald Bernard, Joseph Casco, Jeff Little, TJ Moffit, Jose Penaloza, Brandon Perry and Kevin Russell for the men while Celinda Manzo and Nisreen Rizk will represent the Titan women. Daniel Ramirez and Tim Reed will carry the Titan flag for the men in the 3,000m steeplechase while Amanda Crissinger, Arianna Fuentes, Kim Melechinsky and Pamela Pelayo will do the same for the CSF women.
Fullerton will then travel to another Big West Conference opponent's home track when they take part in the CSUN Challenge against Fresno State, UC Riverside and the host Matadors.
Tejera Dial will be back in action in the 800m run a week after setting the school record in the 1,500m run (4:27.54 seconds) at the UCSD Triton Invitational last weekend. Dial will not be vying for the top spot in the 1,500m in Northridge on Saturday, but will give way to Michelle Botello, Abby Buckhoff, Emily Taylor and Ruby Rodriguez to keep the momentum alive for the Titan women in the event.
The Fullerton throwing corps will look to have a bounce back week in Northridge with the full squad scheduled to compete. Trevor Gorwin, Emmanuel Martinez, Steven Parsons and JaQuan Scott will compete in all three throwing events (shot put, discus and hammer throw) for the men on Saturday.
Jessica Flores will look to pull off the same feat at the CSUN Challenge as the throwers for the Titan men, as she is scheduled to participate in the full slate of throwing events for the women. Catherine Craig, Alexandria Kemp, Amanda Mercado will join Flores in the hammer while Tayla Shultz join her in the discus throw.
Daniel Walker will look to get back to his winning ways as he steps into competition as the lone Titan competitor in the javelin throw on Saturday.
Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week nominee from a week ago, Nick Sole, will be lacing up for two events, the 100m and 200m dash, on Saturday in Northridge while adding a leg in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Sole will be joined by a crew of Titans in the sprinting events as Mason Guzman-Sanchez, Torry Moline, Mason Rollins, Tolson Keawe, Malek Walls and Andrew Williams are all slated to run the 100m dash and Joshua Gordon, Chaz Harmon, Rollins, Taylor Ros, Keawe and Williams are all expected to join Sole in the 200m dash.
The high jump and triple jump competitions will round out the field events at the CSUN Challenge this weekend with Jonathan Tolentino representing the Titan men and Ifunanya Gwacham, Laura Hamann and Ty'Jalayah Robertson participating on behalf of the Titan women in the triple jump.
The duo of Steven Williams and Malik Johnson will look to push each other, as they have all season long, in the high jump after finishing first place in five of the eight meets between them so far this season.
