FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton track and field team boasted another solid outing over the weekend at the 20th annual Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif., as multiple Titans recorded personal and season bests.
Senior Ashley Sims ran a season-best 23.91 and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, which ranks fifth in the conference, while fellow senior Katie Wilson won the 400-meter with a season-best time of 53.85. Wilson's time currently ranks second in the Big West.
The Titan women also saw a great performance from freshman Janaya Shortly, who set a personal best in the 200-meter with a time of 24.20 to finish fifth. The Victorville, Calif., native was also a key contributor in the women's 4x400m relay team, which placed second.
Off the track, senior Jasmyne Davis set a personal best in the triple jump 39-09.25 to finish third and freshman Ty'Jalayah Robertson collected a new personal best in the high jump with a mark of 5-07.00 to place first with Michigan's Sara Nitz.
Junior Taylor Ros ran a personal-best time of 47.91 to win the 400-meter dash on Saturday and holds the fifth-best time in the league. Freshman Shelby Hernandez Jr. also recorded a personal-best in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.50 to finish 10th.
Tejera Dial also performed well in the 800-meter run, as she ran a season-best 2:13.60. In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Daniel Ramirez had a personal best time of 9:18.54 to finish third to cap off a great performance from the team on Friday.
Steven Parsons (170-00) and Alexandria Kemp (164-08) highlighted things for Fullerton's field athletes, as each recorded personal-bests in the hammer throw and finished fourth and eighth, respectively.
Both the men's and women's relay squads also notched good times as the men placed fourth in the 4x400m, while the women finished in second in the 4x100m with a time of 45.50.
The Titans now turn their attention to the Big West Combined Events meet and OXY Invitational next weekend.
