SEATTLE, Wash. – The Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team completed day one of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of the University of Washington behind season-best finishes by multiple Fullerton student-athletes.

Nine Titans participated in five different events on the first day of competition at the MPSF Championships.  The events Fullerton took part in on Friday included the pentathlon, 60-meter dash, 200m dash, 60m hurdle and the weight throw.

Sprints / Hurdles

Alexis Stewart, Brooke Hardge and Alexandra Stewart all kicked off the preliminary heat of the 60m dash with Alexis Stewart posting a season best 7.85 second finish, the best of the day for any Titan.  Alexandra Stewart finished the first heat in 8.04 sec. and Hardge finished with a time of 8.18 sec.  None of the Titans finished fast enough to qualify for the final heat on Saturday.

In the final heat of the 200m dash, Elizabeth Claustro took center stage by posting a season-best finish of 25.80 sec.  Both Alexis and Alexandra Stewart joined Claustro in the 200m dash on Friday, posting times of 25.65 and 26.11, respectively.

Only two Titans competed in the 60-meter hurdle event on the first day of competition in the MPSF Championships, Taylor Frank posted a season-best time of 9.11 sec. while India Owens rounded out the Fullerton participation in the event by finishing with a time of 9.77 sec.

Throws

The weight throw was the lone throwing competition of the day in Seattle, with the three staples of the Titan throwing squad all competing.  Jessica Flore stepped into the spotlight on this day with a season-best throw of 16.97m to finish 11th place overall, the best finish of any Titan on Friday.  Alexandria Kemp also posted a season best, and earned a top-15 finish with a throw of 16.26m.  Amanda Mercado rounded out the Titans, finishing with a distance of 15.73m after her first attempt and fouling on her last two attempts.

Pentathlon

Taylor Frank carried the torch for Fullerton in the pentathlon event at the MPSF Championships on Friday, finishing only 41 points shy of setting her own school record set earlier this year at the NAU Invitational over Valentine's Day weekend.  Frank finished the 60m hurdle in 9.13 seconds, the 800m run in 2:36.15, jumped a distance of 5.24m in the long jump, a height of 1.57m in the high jump and posted a 8.42m distance in the shot put.
