Titans Travel to Take Part in MPSF Championships

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field team will make its second-consecutive trip to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of the University of Washington starting on Friday, Feb. 27 and concluding on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The Titans will be sending a group of 18 student-athletes to participate in 11 events. Fullerton is one of 19 schools competing in the two-day meet and join CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and Hawai'i as Big West Conference representatives.
 

Sprints/Hurdles/Combined
Fresh off of taking first-place overall at the NAU Invitational over Valentines Day weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz., Janaya Shorty will be back competing in the 200-meter dash, and will also take on the 400m dash for the first time this year. Elizabeth Claustro, Alexis Stewart and Alexandria Stewart will join Shorty in the 200m dash.  Claustro and India Owens will be the other two Titans that in the 400m dash as well.  Brooke Hardge will join the Stewart's in the 60m dash to close out the sprinting events for the weekend.

Taylor Frank, school record holder in the pentathlon, will once again look to improve on her own personal best in that event, but will also take part in the 60m hurdles in Seattle.  Tyler Hardge and Owens will also be competing in the 60m-hurdle competition along Frank, while Arianna Fuentes will take part in the one mile run with Emily Taylor.

Throws
Amanda Mercado, Jessica Flores and Alexandra Kemp are all back for the fourth time this season to compete in the throwing competitions for CSF.  Mercado is the only Titan thrower to compete both in the shot put and weight throw events this weekend, as Kemp and Flores will concentrate on the top spot in the weight throw only.

Jumps
Ty'Jalayah Robertson will become the only Titan this season to compete in the triple jump event in all four meets this season in Seattle.  Robertson will still make time to compete in the high jump, however,  to attempt to break her own school record in the event.  Freshman Laura Hamann will continues to improve every chance she gets to compete, and will take on both the long jump and triple jump.  Ifunanya Gwacham finishes out the trio of triple jumpers for the Titans while Brooke Hardge will step off the track and onto the field to compete in the long jump competition with Hamann.

The Titans will also send out one team of runners in both the distance medley relay competition and the 4x400 meter relay events to close out the weekend meet.
