SEATTLE, Wash. / FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Cal State Fullerton Indoor Track and Fie ld team finished up day one of the split-squad action with plenty to write home about after Taylor Frank broke her own school record in the pentathlon and Janaya Shorty took the top spot in the 200 meter dash.

Frank, already the school record holder in the pentathlon after totaling 3,093 points in a single meet last season, shattered her previous school record by over 200 points on Friday at the NAU Invitational.  The senior finished in third place overall and posted a final point tally of 3,296.  Frank finished in third place in four out of the five total events on the day, she finished with a high jump of 1.64m, a shot put distance of 9.04m, a long jump of 5.35 m , a 60m hurdle time of 9.21 seconds and finally an 800m time of 2:44.50.

In the 200m dash, Shorty outpaced the field to cross the finish line in first place with a time of 24.13 sec.  It's the first time this season the sophomore from Victorville, Calif. has taken home the top spot after finishing fifth overall at the UW Invitational in the Titans last meet action.

Sprints

Five other Titans joined Shorty in the 200m dash on Friday in Flagstaff, Ariz.   Alexis Stewart ran a solid race, finishing 14th place with a time of 25.63.  Alexandria Stewart was close behind finishing with a time of 25.68 and earning a 16th place spot overall.  Calaiah Branch and Darnisha Loftis-McKnight crossed the finish line back to back in 23rd and  24th place with times of 26.10 and 26.16, respectively.

Jumps

The first day of competition at the NAU Invitational only featured two jumping competitions, the open pole vault and the triple jump.  Kimberly Amaya put up the best jump of the day for the Titans, finishing 9th overall with a height of 3.05m.  Three Titan student-athletes competed in the triple jump on Friday as Ty'Jalayah Robertson continued her top finishes in the event with her second third place finish of the season with a jump of 11.63m.  Robertson finished third overall at the UNM Lobo Collegiate in the Titans first meet of the year.  Ifunanya Gwacham and freshman Laura Hamann joined Robertson in the event on Friday finishing with jumps of 11.33m and 11.08m, respectively.

Throws

The Titan throwing corps only received one chance to compete on the first day of competition in the NAU Invitational as the shot put event was the lone throwing event of the day.  Amanda Mercado added another top-ten finish to her 2015 resume on Friday, finishing 9th place with a throw of 11.72m.  Jessica Flores was the only other Titan to participate in the shot put at the NAU Invite, finishing in 13th place with a throw of 10.93m.

Pentathlon

Joining Frank in the pentathlon at the NAU Invitational was Leah Stevens and Nicolette Garcia.  It was the first time competing in the pentathlon in 2015 for both Stevens and Garcia, finishing 4th and 5th overall.  Stevens finished fifth in the 60m hurdle (10.79 sec.), fourth in the high jump (1.58m), third in the shot put (9.94m), fourth in the long jump (4.97m), and fourth in the 800m (2:59.11).  Garcia finished fourth in the 60m hurdle (9.55 sec.), fifth in the high jump (1.49m), fifth in the shot put (8.36m), fifth in the long jump (4.14m), and fifth in the 800m (3:16.89).

Two Titan men competed in the NAU Invitational on Friday in the 200m dash.  Seniors Nike Sole and Taylor Ros both cracked the top-ten in the overall standings, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.  Sole finished with a time of 21.90 sec and Ros crossed the finish line at 22.12 for their first action of the 2015 season.

Husky Invitational

The Distance medley relay was the only event that the Titans competed in on the first day of competition in Seattle, Wash.  Two separate teams of Titans ran in the event and both finished in the top 15.  The team of Dial, Tijerra Lynch, Katie Bathgate and Arianna Fuentes finished in 12th overall with a time of 12:33.35 and the team of Pamela Pelayo, Ruby Rodriguez, Michelle Botello and Celinda Manzo finished in 15th place, crossing the finish line at 13:01.35.

The Titans are back in action at the NAU Invite and Tejera Dial will be the long competitor at the Husky Invite as she takes part in the 800m run.
