SEATTLE, Wash. – Freshman Destinee Brown's broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash as she highlighted a day of big performances on the track for Cal State Fullerton at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Friday in Seattle, Wash.
Brown got the women off on the right foot on Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility by recording a new school record in the 60-meter dash. The Los Angeles native ran a 7.40 breaking her previous school record of 7.43, which she set at the Northern Arizona Team Challenge on Jan. 17. Brown has now made back-to-back 60m finals and is ranked sixth heading into tomorrow's final. Brown also placed first in her section in the 200 meter dash and fifth overall with a time of 24.26.
Senior Ashley Sims also competed in the 60-meter dash and finished second in her heat with a time of 7.68. However, Sims had her best performance of the day in the 200-meter dash after posting a time of 24.75 while finishing in first place of her section.
The Titans also saw junior Deena Pierce place second in her preliminary heat in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72, but unfortunately Pierce did not qualify for the 60m hurdles finals on Saturday.
Off the track, weight thrower Amanda Mercado (pictured) finished second in the competition behind Utah's Ilse Kaaja as she tossed a best of 16.38m on Friday. Redshirt sophomore Alexandria Kemp also competed in the weight throw as she finished in ninth with a best of 14.80m.
In the long jump, freshman Ty'Jalayah Robertson wrapped up the best Titan long jump of the day as she posted a best of 5.08m, while Brooke Hardge had a best of 4.99m. Competing in the pentathlon for the second time this season Taylor Frank was the highest finishing Titan with 3,093 points while Nicolette Garcia ended with 2,874 points.
Heading into day two the Titans rank 11th out of 18 schools as the championship meet continues tomorrow Saturday, March 1 from Dempsey Indoor at 10:30 a.m. (PT).
