FULLERTON, Calif.- Cal State Fullerton set a new school record, broke multiple personal records, and claimed seven top-three finishes in what arguably was the team's most productive outing of the season at the Boise State Team Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The impressive day for the Titans started off with freshman Destinee Brown (pictured right) as she came away a double-winner in both events she competed in. The Los Angles, Calif., native won the 60-meter dash after finishing with a time of 7.51 and claimed first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.33.
Along with Brown, the Titans had four athletes advance to the 60-meter dash finals. Later, junior Tejera Dial broke her own school record and won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.89. The Bakersfield, Calif., native previously broke Pamela Rogue's 800m record last weekend at the Husker Invitational when she finished with a time of 2:17.31.
Fullerton also won the 60-meter Hurdles as junior Deena Pierce raced to a first place finish with a personal best time of 8.77, while freshman Brittany Thornton came in third with also a personal record of 8.98.
"I thought this was a great meet for the Titans and the girls that competed this weekend," said head coach John Elders. "It was really great to see them perform that well at this point in the season. This is definitely an excellent boost and improvement for us as we head into MPFS in two weeks."
In the 200-meter dash, Sims finished third with a time of 24.86 and Alexis Stewart set her second personal record of the day with a time of 25.29 to finish right behind Sims. Freshman Sprinter Tigest Nealy also had a career day as she posted a best of 58.36 in the 400-meter.
The Titans finished second in the 4x400 meter relay as a team of Nealy, Brown, Sims, and Tijerra Lynch finished with a time of 3:54.46.
Off the track, freshman Ty'Jalayah Robertson (pictured left) finished second and recorded a personal best of 11.87 meters in the triple jump, while Jasmyne Davis had a 5.38m long jump to finish third. Davis also finished sixth in the triple jump with a best of 11.14m.
