FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field is set for another highly competitive meet this weekend as 23 Titans travel to the midwest for the 39th annual Sevigne Husker Invitational. This meet brings some of the top athletes and teams in the nation to the Devaney Center each year, and this year's edition boasts over 40 teams participating over two days of action.

Fullerton will measure how it ranks amongst some of the nation's best schools as Auburn, Kansas State, USC, Iowa State, Colorado State, Illinois, and Maryland, will be represented.

For the first time this season, distance runners and sprinters will compete at the same meet this Friday and Saturday. The Titans will bring 13 sprinters, led by senior Katie Wilson and freshman Destinee Brown. Wilson set a personal record in the 400-meter dash at the Cherry and Silver Collegiate with a time of 54.84 two weekends ago, while Brown broke the school record in the 60-meter dash at the Northern Arizona Team Challenge on Jan. 18 with a time of 7.43.

Saturday will also see Fullerton's distance runners be put to the test as six Titans will be in action in the 800-meter run or mile. After breaking the school record in the one-mile run (5:09.40) last weekend, junior Tejera Dial will run in the 800-meter race this weekend.

The women's combined events will start the action on Friday at 9:30 a.m. (PT) and the first running event will be at 4 p.m. (PT) with the women's 60-meter hurdles.

Katie Bathgate, Morgan Thompson, and Brittany Thornton will make their 2014 indoor track debuts at the Husker Invitational.

At the UW Invitational last weekend the Titans competed in two new events in school history, the pentathlon and distance medley relay. Nicolette Garcia, Taylor Frank, and Jessica Aguilera all competed in the pentathlon for the first time, as Aguilera was the highest finishing Titan in the event as she finished in 14th with 3,056 points. Garcia finished with 3,106 points and Frank had 2,910 as they placed 16th and 19th, respectively.

Participating in the distance medley relay for the very first time the Titans finished eighth with a time of 12:18.89 as the relay was ran by Ana Valdovinos, Elizabeth Claustro, Arianna Fuentes, and Dial.

Following this weekend's meets, Fullerton will travel to Boise, Idaho for the Boise State Challenge on Feb. 15.

Notes:
The Husker Invitational will have multi-events in addition to the full slate of open events and series of special invites. The Husker Invitational is named in honor of former track and field Head Coach Frank Sevigne, who fought a gallant battle against cancer prior to his death on Jan. 29, 1985. Sevigne was posthumously inducted into the United States Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Dec. 4, 2004, in Portland, Ore.

Sevigne brought a wealth of success to Nebraska athletics. He oversaw a total of 11 national champions, 42 All-Americans and 103 individual conference champions. One of his former athletes, sprinter Charlie Greene, added an Olympic gold medal in the 4x100-meter relay at the 1968 Games.
