Brown Sets 60m School Record at NAU Challenge

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Cal State Fullerton track & field program had a strong showing in its first action of the 2014 season Friday night in Flagstaff Ariz., at the Northern Arizona Team Challenge.

The Titans were led by freshman Destinee Brown who set a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.43. The Los Angeles, Calif., native also ran a 24.24 in the 200-meter dash.

On the track, the Titans were paced by junior Morgan Thompson and senior Katie Wilson in the 200-meter, who ran times of 24.92 and 25.13, respectively. Sophomore Alexis Start finished second with a time of 25.29 in the 200-meter dash.

Junior Nicolette Garcia had a strong time in the 60-meter hurdle (9.27), while teammate Tigest Nealy placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.41.

Off the track, Cal State Fullerton was led by junior Amanda Mercado (16.05) and freshman Alexandria Kemp (14.98) in the weight throw as they finished first and second, respectively.

In the shot put, freshman Hannah Terhaar finished second with a 10.45m toss and junior Jessica Aguilera placed third courtesy of a 9.72m throw.

Fullerton returns to action next week at the two-day (Jan. 24-25) at the University of New Mexico Cherry and Silver Collegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.

National Pole Vault Summit

Junior Kimberly Amaya and freshman Bryn Williamson both competed in the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. over the weekend. Williamson posted a best jump of 3.2 meters and finished tied for seventh, while Amaya had a best of 3.0 meters to finish in 12th.
