Titans Travel to UCR; Host CSUN

AT UC RIVERSIDE || CSUN
Cal State Fullerton will travel to UC Riverside on Friday as the two clubs, currently tied for eighth in the Big West  Conference standings, meet for the second time this season. The Titans will then host CSUN on Tuesday at Titan Gym, as the teams  play one another for the first time in 2016. The Matadors are currently seventh in the league standings.

WEEKLY RECAP
Cal State Fullerton was swept by the Big West Conference's top two teams last week with losses to Hawai'i (3-0) and at Long Beach State (3-0). The Titans have now dropped seven consecutive sets.

Tickets for all Titans home games can be purchased online at FullertonTitans.com, or at the Cal State Fullerton Athletics Ticket Office, located in the Titan House on campus off of Gymnasium Drive on the northeast side of Titan Gym. Game day sales and will call tickets will open one hour prior to the scheduled time at the specific venue. All Cal State Fullerton students with a school ID get free admission.

UC RIVERSIDE NOTES
• With 17 digs at UC Davis on Oct. 20, Maddie Hubbell became UC Riverside's all-time digs leader, surpassing 2015 UCR Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee and two-time All-American Sheryl Benson-Rawlins' mark of 1,556. Hubbell has 1,604 digs for her career, and is now 79 digs away from breaking into the top-10 on the Big West all-time digs list. 
• UC Riverside leads the Big West Conference averaging 16.22 digs per set. Hubbell's average of 4.23 digs per game ranks fourth in the league.
Shimen Fayad's career-high 27 kills led Cal State Fullerton to a 3-1 victory over UCR at Titan Gym in both teams' Big West Conference opener back on Sep. 24.
• Fullerton boasts all-time winning record against just two Big West Conference opponents, UC Davis and the Highlanders.

CSUN NOTES
• Junior libero Katie Sato was named Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday (Oct. 31) for the second time this season after spearheading CSUN's defensive effort in a home split last week. The honor was the second in Sato's Matador career after also being honored on Sept. 26. In home matches against UC Davis (1-3) and UC Irvine (3-2) last week, Sato averaged 4.89 digs per set as the Matadors snapped a seven match winless streak with the 3-2 win over the Anteaters. 
• Saturday's 3-2 win over UC Irvine gave the Matadors six five-set wins this season. CSUN is now 6-2 in five-set matches but is just 1-13 in non five-set matches.

ABOUT THE TITANS
• Cal State Fullerton (6-18, 1-9 BWC), who was winless in 2015, has secured six victories this season.
• The Titans are currently on nine-match losing streak, their longest of the season, winning just three sets in their last 30.
• The Titans ended a 19-match Big West Conference losing streak with a 3-1 victory over UC Riverside on Sept. 24.
• The Titans are often battling from behind with a 4-20 record in the first set this season and a 2-18 mark after a first-set loss.
Summer Kerins '.295 hitting percentage leads Cal State Fullerton and ranks ninth in the Big West.
Shimen Fayad's 3.49 kills per set rank seventh in the conference, and her 0.27 service aces per set also rate eighth in the league.
Madeline Schneider's 3.22 kills per game rank 10th in the Big West.
• Fayad leads the Titans with 13 double-doubles.

2016 SEASON HONORS
Career highs in kills and digs from Shimen Fayad helped the Titan volleyball team win its first conference opener in five years and earned her Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors on Sept. 26.The 6-foot outside hitter tallied 27 kills and 22 digs to spearhead Fullerton to a four-set victory over UC Riverside on Sept. 24.It was Fayad's team-leading ninth double-double of the year.
The win over the Highlanders snapped a 19-match Big West Conference losing streak that dated back to Nov. 15, 2014.Fayad, who hit a torrid .390 for the match with just four errors in 59 attempts, became even more productive as the match wore on. She was responsible for 10 of Fullerton's 13 kills, including match point, in the fourth and final set.  She hit .769 in that set.

GAME NOTES
• The Titans' 19-match Big West Conference losing streak was snapped in the 3-1 win over UCR on Sept. 24 which dated back to Nov. 15, 2014, when they captured a 3-0 victory over the Highlanders.
Shimen Fayad's 27 kills against UCR were the most for any Titan in 2016
• Dating back to 1980, Cal State Fullerton is 5-32 in conference opening matches...playing at home in conference openers, the Titans are 4-14…Cal State Fullerton won its first Big West Conference opener since a 3-0 sweep of Cal Poly at Titan Gym on Sept. 23, 2011.
Annie Ellis set career highs in kills (3), attempts (8), assists (34), digs (7) and blocks (4), in a 3-1 loss at UC Davis on Oct. 22.

ACES WILD
Shimen Fayad had quite a day at the line in the opening weekend as she served up six aces in one match to help Cal State Fullerton defeat Mississippi Valley State. With her half-dozen service aces, Fayad made her way into the Titans' single-match record book as she tied for fourth most aces in a single match. She now leads the team with 16 aces on the year to average 0.32 per set. 

UP NEXT
Following its games against UCR and CSUN, the Titans will travel to play UC Santa Barbra (Nov. 11) and Cal Poly (Nov. 12) on the road.
