FULLERTON, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton will return to action with three matches this week, first hosting 21st-ranked Azusa Pacific (Division II) on Tuesday at Titan Tennis Courts before traveling to UC Santa Barbara (Saturday) and Cal Poly (Sunday) for Big West Conference action over the weekend.

 

The Titans (14-1, 3-1 BWC) extended their win streak to three consecutive matches with a 4-0 victory over UC Davis on Thursday. Cal State Fullerton is currently third in the Big West Conference standings.

NEWS & NOTES
Cal State Fullerton has its best record (14-1) after 15 matches in program history, and Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point in 2017. Fullerton is closing in on last year's program record 17 victories as the Titans have six matches remaining in the regular season.


Senior Alexis Valenzuela has won her last three matches two improve to 12-1 in 2017, and her career mark is now 52-15 in dual match singles play.


Fellow senior Camille De Leon is 10-2 in singles action, and boasts a career singles mark of 52-27 at Fullerton.


As a group, the Titans' singles record is 60-17 (.779) in 2017, and Fullerton's doubles record is 31-6 (.838).

Junior Danielle Pham is currently on a three-match win streak as her singles record is now 11-3.

 

In doubles play the team of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin (13-1) has won 10 in a row, while the team of De Leon and Valenzuela (11-1) has won eight straight matches.

 

OPPONENTS
Azusa Pacific (11-5) is on a two match win streak and is currently ranked No. 21 in the Oracle/ITA Division II Women's National rankings.

 

UC Santa Barbara (7-9, 1-1 BWC) snapped a three-match losing skid with a 4-1 victory at CSUN on Sunday.

 

Cal Poly (2-11, 0-3 BWC) went 1-1 last week with a 6-1 loss to Hawai'i and a 4-3 victory over Sacramento State.

AWARD SEASON

Senior Alexis Valenzuela has been voted the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week five times during her career and two times in 2017.

Most recently the West Covina, Calif., native earned the honor after going 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play in wins against UC Irvine (5-2) and Seton Hall (6-1).

In addition, she posted three singles victories as the Titans swept UC San Diego, the No. 13-ranked team in Division II, as well as San Diego State (4-0) and San Diego (4-3) on the road in the second week of the season.

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Sarah Nuno went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play to earn the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award, it was announced by the league on Feb. 8.
Nuno overcame a first set loss to Joselyn Treyes Albar, but rebounded to win the match against her Dons counterpart, prevailing 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3.
Against Santa Clara, she blanked Zeina El Tawil, 6-0, 6-0.  She helped the Titans capture the doubles point with Portalatin, as the duo took care of El Tawil and Nabila Farah, 6-2. 
The athlete of the week award was the first for Nuno during her Titan career.
