FULLERTON, Calif. --- After more than a week off, Cal State Fullerton returns to Titan Tennis Courts on Saturday to host Pacific.

 

The Titans will play three matches in the upcoming week, as Nebraska visits on Tuesday before Fullerton travels to San Jose State for a match on Friday.

NEWS & NOTES
Last week, Cal State Fullerton's season-opening and program-record 11-match winning streak was snapped in a 4-3 loss to Long Bach State.


Senior Alexis Valenzuela suffered her first loss of the season in singles play (9-1), and is now 49-15 in her dual match singles career.


Fellow senior Camille De Leon is 7-2 in singles action, and boasts a career singles mark of 49-27 at Fullerton.


As a group, the Titans' singles record is 49-15 (.766) in 2017, and Fullerton's doubles record is 24-6 (.800).

Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point this season.

In addition, sophomore Sarah Nuno (9-2) had her nine-match win streak in singles play snapped last week against the 49ers, while junior Danielle Pham is 9-3 on the year and sophomore Karla Portalatin is 9-2.

 

In doubles play the team of Nuno and Portalatin (10-1) has won seven in a row, while the team of De Leon and Valenzuela (8-1) has won five straight matches.

 

OPPONENTS
Pacific leads the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton 12-2 dating back to 2000, although in 2016, the Titans recorded a 5-2 victory in Stockton.

 

Nebraska is currently ranked at No. 49 in the 2016-17 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Huskers are 14-0 on the year, including a 13-0 record at home. Nebraska will be the first ranked Division I opponent that Fullerton will play in 2017. The Titans are 0-4 against the Huskers dating back to 2000.

 

Sybille Gauvain, currently ranked 72nd in the 2016-17 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings has led San Jose State to a 7-4 record, including a mark of 3-1 at home. The Spartans and Titans last played on Jan. 22, 2013, with SJSU scoring a 5-2 win in Fullerton.


AWARD SEASON
Senior Alexis Valenzuela has been voted the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week five times during her career and two times in 2017.

Most recently the West Covina, Calif., native earned the honor after going 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play in wins against UC Irvine (5-2) and Seton Hall (6-1).

In addition, she posted three singles victories as the Titans swept UC San Diego, the No. 13-ranked team in Division II, as well as San Diego State (4-0) and San Diego (4-3) on the road in the second week of the season.

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Sarah Nuno went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play to earn the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award, it was announced by the league on Feb. 8.
Nuno overcame a first set loss to Joselyn Treyes Albar, but rebounded to win the match against her Dons counterpart, prevailing 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3.
Against Santa Clara, she blanked Zeina El Tawil, 6-0, 6-0.  She helped the Titans capture the doubles point with Portalatin, as the duo took care of El Tawil and Nabila Farah, 6-2. 
The athlete of the week award was the first for Nuno during her Titan career.
