FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior defender Marlene Sandoval was named to the All-West Region First Team by both Soccer Buzz and the NSCAA while two other Titans and Head Coach Ali Khosroshahin also earned all-region nods as announced by both organizations.

Sandoval, who was named a second-team NSCAA All-American earlier this month, helped guide one of the most dominating defenses in the history of the Titans' women's soccer program in 2005.

Fullerton set school records for fewest goals allowed (15), fewest shots allowed (161), and most shutouts in a single season (12), while also tying the record for consecutive shutouts in a single season with four from Sept. 16-29, outscoring the opposition 11-0 in that span.

Senior forward Kandace Wilson, who was named the 2005 Big West Co-Offensive Player of the Year and also earned a first-team all-conference nod, was named to both the Soccer Buzz and NSCAA All-West Region Third Teams after finishing the year with eight goals and five assists (21 points), and finished her four-year career ranked second in both points and goals.

Junior goalkeeper Karen Bardsley was also named to the Soccer Buzz All-West Region Third Team after posting a 16-4 overall record in net to go with a 0.64 goals against average and 10 shutouts.

Bardsley set school single-season records for goalkeeper victories, goals against average, and shutouts while tying the school record for single-season minutes played with 1,820.

During the course of the year, Bardsley set school career records for victories (35) and shutouts (18) while lowering her school record career GAA to a miniscule 0.76. She also ranks second in minutes (4,364) and saves (184).

Khosroshahin was named runner-up for Soccer Buzz West Region Coach of the Year won by Garrett Smith, who guided the University of Portland to the 2005 NCAA National Championship.

It is the second Soccer Buzz runner-up honor for Khosroshahin, who shared the 2005 honor with BYU's Jennifer Rockwood. The Titan coach was also named runner-up in 2001 after leading Fullerton to the Big West title and the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Titans finished 19-4 overall and won both the Big West Conference regular season and tournament titles to earn their second-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament. Once there, Fullerton finished as one of the final 16 teams left standing after defeating UNLV and Southern California at home in the first two rounds, and dropping a narrow, 2-1, decision to No. 7 Virginia on the road in the third round.

Cal State Fullerton finished the 2005 season ranked in the top 12 in a pair of national polls, standing at a school-record No. 11 in the nation according to Soccer Buzz and No. 12 according to the NSCAA. Both organizations have the Titans ranked at No. 5 in the West Region.
