Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton outshot visiting Cal Poly by a 13-7 margin, but it wasn't enough as neither team found the back of the net in a double-overtime scoreless tie on Sunday afternoon in a Big West Conference women's soccer match at Titan Stadium.

The Titans moved to 7-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Big West Conference play. The Mustangs, playing in their fifth consecutive double overtime contest, moved to 7-5-3 overall and 1-0-3 in league action.

Fullerton junior Brianna Buffington led all players with four shots on the afternoon as the Titans also had a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal as a team.

Senior goalkeeper Karen Bardsley made four saves in tallying her sixth shutout of the year in the 110-minute effort while Cal Poly keeper Alli Tramel also had four saves for her fifth clean sheet of the year.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half with Cal State Fullerton becoming the early agressor in the offensive third.

The Titans, who outshot the Mustangs by an 8-1 margin in the first half, took the first seven shots of the half and nearly had the first goal of the match with just under 10 minutes left in the period on a bang-bang exchange in the box.

Sophomore Jenae Gibbens took the initial shot that was saved Tramel, but the rebound was knocked back into a crowd of players. Junior Stacey Thompson found the ball at her feet, but her attempt was knocked away at the last second by a Mustangs' defender on the line at the right post to keep the match scoreless.

The second half was much of the same with a slight reversal of roles as the Mustangs' pressure kept the ball in the Titans' end of the field for much of the period.

Cal Poly, which had three shots to Fullerton's two in the second half, had its best chance to score in the waining moments of the period as a cross by Kelsey Carroll was flicked on by Ashley Vallis to the back post but just wide as Danielle Camarena's sliding effort came late out of bounds.

In the first overtime period, both sides had early scoring chances as the Mustangs tried to capitalize first, but Camarena's diving header off a cross from Carroll in the sixth minute of overtime went wide.

Buffington then had a golden chance for Fullerton with just over three minutes left as she won a footrace with the Cal Poly keeper to the ball, but her chip shot trickled just wide to the right post.

The Titans managed the only two shots in overtime as senior Emmy Dokulil's strike from the top of the box sailed high and Leslie Munoz's shot went wide to the left.

Cal State Fullerton takes a break from conference play next weekend with only a single match against UC Davis on Sunday (Oct. 22) at 12 p.m. in Davis, Calif.
