Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior defender Erica Janke scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute to help lift the visiting Titans to a 1-0 victory over host Cal State Northridge on Sunday afternoon at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.

The victory was the third in a row for Fullerton, which improved to 7-5-1 overall and 3-0 in Big West Conference play. The Titans opened 3-0 in conference play for only the fourth time since 1996 and the first since 2002.

The Matadors fell to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in league play while also suffering their first home defeat of the season.

Fullerton would score the only goal it would need at 29:17. Mandy Puffinberger sent a corner kick into the box from the right side. Northridge senior goalkeeper April Cline came off her line to grab the ball, but it fell out of her hands and to the foot of Janke, who kicked it in for her second goal of the season.

Northridge outshot Fullerton 12-9 for the match. For the Titans, Lauren Cram and Leslie Munoz each had two shots to lead the team. Cline made two saves in goal for the Matadors while Fullerton's Karen Bardsley had five stops to notch her fifth shutout of the season.

Fullerton extended its Big West Conference winning streak to nine consecutive matches with the victory dating back to last season - including the seventh shutout in that span.

The Titans improved to 9-1 all-time against the Matadors, including wins in the last six straight.

Cal State Fullerton returns home next weekend for a pair of matches against UC Santa Barbara on Friday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. and Cal Poly on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m.
