Titans Set to Open 2017 Campaign Against Seattle on Friday

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton opens up the 2017 campaign with Seattle at home, Friday at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium. The Titans will then hit the road for the first time this year and take on Fresno State in game one of a season-long four game road trip, Sunday at noon.

QUICK HITS

• Cal State Fullerton defeated San Diego State, 1-0, on Aug. 12 in a friendly at Titan Stadium. With the victory, the Titans start off the season on a high note after scoring in the second minute.

• The Titans went 7-2 at home last year, as opposed to owning a 1-8 record on the road last season.

• Titans have qualified for the Big West Tournament in five straight seasons under head coach Demian Brown.

• The Titans have qualified for the NCAA Tournament three of the last four seasons. 

• Brown is in his 11th season at the helm of the Titans. Cal State Fullerton is 92-85-26 under Brown.

 

IN THE POLLS
The Titans came in second place in Big West's women's soccer preseason poll released on Aug. 10. Cal State Fullerton secured 63 points in the polls, trailing Long Beach State in first with 78 points. Titans Connie Caliz made the preseason All-Conference Team.

The Titans and Redhawks will meet for the first time ever on Aug. 19 at Titan Stadium. 

 

Fresno State
Noon | Sunday, Aug. 20 | Fresno State Soccer Field
The Titans face the Bulldogs for just the tenth time in program history. Fullerton heads to Fresno with a 6-3-0 overall record all time against the Bulldogs. On the road against Fresno State, the Titans are 3-1. Fullerton has won the last four match ups against Fresno. 

 

2016 RECAP
The Titans finished last season 8-10-1 (5-3-0 Big West). This gave the team a fourth-place finish in the Big West Conference. Jazzmin Mancilla was out for the season after tearing her ACL in the season opener against Saint Mary's. The Titans made it to the semi-final of the Big West Conference Tournament where they fell to UC Irvine in PK's at George Allen Field in Long Beach, Calif. 

WELCOME BACK
Titans welcome back 25 members from last year's squad, including 10 starters from last year. Out of the 10, nine are seniors entering their final year with the program. Senior Morgan Bertsch, is expected to anchor the goal for the Titans.  She made four starts in net compiling, a 1-2-0 record with a save percentage of .800.  The Titans also welcome back their leading scorer from a year ago in Sarah FajnorTala Haddad makes her return to the Titan midfield.  She secured nine points for Titans scoring three goals while recording three assists.  She is expected to have a strong senior year. The senior complied 16 points on seven goals scored and two assists.  

SEASON OPENERS
In the last three season openers, the Titans have gone undefeated posting a record of 2-0-1. Overall Fullerton is 7-14-2 in season openers.
