Fullerton Opens Season at WSU Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. - Cal State Fullerton plays its first of four fall tournaments this week as the Titans head to the WSU Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.

THE COURSE: Washington State's Palouse Ridge Golf Club will play as a 6,200-yard, par-72 course for the WSU Cougar Cup starting Monday. It is located on campus and was the host for the 2015 Men's Pac-12 Golf Championships. The course opened in Aug. 2008 and has been named to Golfweek's Top College Courses List for the last three consecutive years. The field will play 36-holes with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. Monday followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

THE FIELD: Along with the Titans and host Cougars, a total of 10 teams will participate in the WSU Cougar Cup. The rest of the field includes: British Columbia, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Sacramento State, Seattle and Valparaiso.

IN THE POLLS: Cal State Fullerton enters the 2016-17 season ranked No. 123 in the nation. Senior Martina Edberg comes in ranked No. 106 in the country on the individual side for the Titans.

HISTORY AT WSU COUGAR CUP: This will be the fourth time the Titans have participated in the Washington State Invitational/WSU Cougar Cup and the second straight year they have traveled to Palouse Ridge Golf Course. It is also the second time the Titans will open their season in Pullman, with the last coming in the 2012-13 season. Fullerton finished in eighth place in 2010-11, the first time the Titans played the event. In 2012-13, the Titans placed fourth overall and finished sixth at last year's event.

MAKING HER MARK: Senior Martina Edberg begins her final season at Fullerton on Monday but has already left her mark on the Cal State Fullerton women's golf program. Edberg currently holds the all-time record for best career scoring average (74.17) and most rounds of par or better (31). She has set the Fullerton single-season scoring average record every season she has played for the Titans, with her 73.34 average from last year currently atop the all-time list. Edberg is second all-time with 21 career top-20 finishes but her nine top-5 finishes rank first all-time. Edberg also holds the all-time single round scoring record after posting a 65 in the second round of last year's WSU Cougar Cup. She has recorded seven rounds in the 60s overall and her 54-hole score of 211 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Classic also ranks as the best in Titans history.

NEW FACES: The Titans welcome three newcomers to the 2016-17 squad including Gonzaga-transfer Daniella Uy. The 5-foot-6 junior comes to the Titans after two seasons with the Bulldogs in which she posted a 77.66 career scoring average. She played 50 rounds in 18 events and tallied five rounds of par or better during her time at Gonzaga. Along with Uy, freshmen Ashley Hisa and Elsa Lundquist join the Titans this season as the new faces on the team.

CHIP SHOTS:

- Sophomore Felicia Medalla comes off a solid freshman campaign in which she finished second on the team in scoring average (77.39). Medalla played in eight of the Titans nine tournaments during the season and a pair of rounds of par or better. She totaled three top-20 finishes including a pair of 12th place showings, the last at the Fresno State Classic on March 7-8.
- Junior Brittany Farrell enters her third year with Fullerton having played in 16 tournaments and 44 rounds. She has posted four top-20 finishes in her career and has posted a 77.06 scoring average through her first two years. She posted a career-best round of 72 last season and has posted 34 total rounds in the 70s in her career.
- Pauline Welker comes off a solid freshman campaign in which she finished fourth on the team in scoring average (80.27). She played in six tournaments as a freshman and posted 10 rounds in the 70s, including a career-best 73 at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate on March 27-29.
- Brittney Sok return to the squad in 2016-17 after having played in five tournaments last season, posting a 81.07 scoring average.
