TF to Compete at UCLA on Friday, Host Titan Team Challenge on Saturday

Titan Team Challenge Heat Sheets

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field has a group of distance runners set to compete at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday at UCLA. CSF will then host the Titan Team Challenge on Saturday at Titan Track Complex. The final home meet of the season will begin with field events at 9:30 a.m. PT and then track events commence at 12 p.m. PT. At 2:50 p.m., the squad will have a ceremony to honor the seniors that will be competing for the final time at Titan Track Complex.

At UCLA, the Titans will run against the likes of Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Tulane, Minnesota, UC Irvine, Cornell, UC Santa Barbara and others.

For the Titan Team Challenge, CSF welcomes Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Cornell and UC Davis.

The Titans have already set three school records this outdoor season, with Nicole Clark throwing 144-11 (44.17m) in the javelin, Samantha Huerta running a mile-converted 4:26.68 1,500-meter time and Corey Gilbert throwing the discus 178-7 (54.45m).

At this point in the young outdoor season, the Titans have 14 individual marks that rank in the top-48 in the NCAA West Region on the women's side. In order to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round at the end of the season, you must have a top-48 mark in the region. Huerta has the No. 27 ranked time in the 800-meter race at 2:10.53 and her 1,500m time is ranked ninth. Huerta also has the 11th-ranked 5K time at 17:13.53. Trinity Ruleas has the No. 12 5K time at 17:15.82. Gabrielle De La Rosa's steeplechase time of 10:56.95 is currently ranked 14th in the region.

Naiah Boardingham's long jump mark of 19-8.75 (6.01m) is ranked 22nd in the region and Laura Hamann's triple jump of 39-6 (12.04m) is 34th. Clark's school-record toss of 144-11 is ranked 39th in the javelin. 

For the men's side, 11 individual marks rank in the top-48 of the West region. Rasaun House's wind-aided time of 10.44 in the 100 meters is ranked 12th. Three Titans have top 25 times in the 5K at Danny Ramirez (14:44.93, 15th), Jorge Sanchez (14:49.18, 22nd) and Jake Smith (14:49.25, 23rd). Ramirez is also 13th in the steeplechase at 9:12.73. Mason Guzman-Sanchez is ranked 30th in 110-meter hurdles at 14:52 while Sam Schubert is 43rd with a time of 14.66.

Edwin Matthews' high jump clearance of 6-8.75 (2.05m) is 19th in the region and Anthony Applequist triple jumped 50-3.5 (15.33m) to be ranked 10th. Gilbert's discus toss of 178-8 (54.45m) is good for 15th in the region and Alvin Sung threw the javelin 203-0 (61.88m) which is 28th.

As we are in the 2018 season, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders is in his 30th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history.
