LOS ANGELES – Cal State Fullerton track and field sent a group of distance runners to compete at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and they clocked multiple personal bests at Drake Stadium on Friday night.
Jake Smith finished in seventh place in the invitational section of the 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:43.96. In just his second collegiate 5K, Smith set a new personal best by roughly six seconds. On the women's side, Trinity Ruelas finished fifth in the invitational section with a time of 17:41.89.
Jorge Sanchez earned a fifth-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9:06.16. Sanchez improved his top time by nearly 13 seconds. Danny Ramirez also ran the steeple and posted a time of 9:50.18.
On the women's side, Gabrielle De La Rosa clocked a steeplechase time of 10:56.31, good for sixth place overall. That is also a personal-best mark for De La Rosa. Pamela Pelayo's time of 11:25.74 was good for ninth place.
Wendi Leos ran her first collegiate 10K in 37:27.40 to take seventh place overall. Brianna Jacklin was in eighth place with a time of 37:51.06.
Uriel Medina clocked a 5K time of 15:25.03 to take sixth place overall in the open section. That time beat his previous personal best by 15 seconds as he ran 15:40 at the Ben Brown Invite earlier this year. Freek van de Weerd ran in the same race and was just behind Medina in eighth place with a time of 15:26.00. Victor Diaz represented CSF in the 5K as well and posted a time of 15:57.65.
The Titans host the Titan Team Challenge on Saturday morning at Titan Track Complex in what is the team's final home meet of the season.
