Titans Put Together Solid Weekend at Ben Brown Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif.—Cal State Fullerton continued its strong start to the 2014 spring season, as both the women and men's teams came in first at the Ben Brown Invitational over the weekend.

Over 1,100 track and field spectators made their way out to the Titan Track and Field Complex to watch more than 40 teams compete over the two-day span.


The host Titans put up a 191.5 points on the weekend to edge Utah Valley (185.5) on the women's side of things, while the Fullerton men posted 189 points to tie with Utah Valley. 


Destinee Brown
and Tigest Nealy led the Fullerton women, as Brown (23.83) took second in her heat in the 200-meter dash, while Nealy (24.85) placed first in the 200-meter dash in her respective heat.

In the 4x400m race, the Titans came away victorious with a time of 3:45.88 as a team of Katie Wilson, Nealy, Morgan Thompson, and Deena Pierce competed. Junior Tejera Dial (2:13.86) also had a strong showing, as she placed third in the 800-meter run.

Brooke Hardge (18-03.25) third place finish in the long jump served as the best mark for the Titan women on the weekend, while Jasmyne Davis finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 38-09.0.

Shelby Hernandez Jr. (1:54.46) placed second in the 800-meter run in his respective preliminary and teammate Brandon Cook finished sixth in his heat with a time of 1:54.13.

Paris Pijuan (15-07.0) finished third in the pole vault, while Alexander Ostrowski (22-11.0) placed fourth in the long jump to round out the top four finishes for the men.

Overall, the Titans finished the weekend with 12 top-four finishes and will resume their season next weekend at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational.
