Titans Set to Host Ben Brown Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Titans resume their 2014 outdoor season this Friday and Saturday as the program plays host to the 20th annual Ben Brown Invitational this weekend at the Titan Track and Field Complex on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

 

Over 1,500 athletes will fill over 2,500 event spots and will represent over 40 institutions this weekend, including Division-I programs like Long Beach State, USC, Pepperdine, Cal State Bakersfield, and of course Cal State Fullerton among others.

 

The meet will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the men and women's hammer throw and will conclude approximately around 10:00 p.m. Saturday evening with the distance carnival.

"It's really fun to see our athletes get a chance to compete against other top athletes from other division one colleges, post-college athletes, and community colleges at home," said Cal State Fullerton head track and field coach John Elders. "It's definitely going to be a long day at the track, but a fun one as well."


Representing the Titan men this weekend will be Malek Walls, Keawe Tolson, Nick Sole, Luis Matos, Jayce Smith, Brandon Cook, Shelby Hernandez Jr., Tanner Love, Daniel York-Mouton, TJ Moffit, Jonathan Smith, Joshua Gordon, Sean Graham, Jose Penaloza, Gilbert Solorza, Anthony Castellon, Dalton Hall, Donald Bernard, Brandon Perry, Joe Casco, Jeff Little, Kevin Russell, Daniel Ramirez, Paris Pijuan, Jacob Anderson, Andre Elmore, Alexander Ostrowski, Sean Foelich, Jonathan Tolentino, Emmett Kellogg, Steven Parsons, JaQuan Scott, Austin Flores, Kenneth Callinan, Emmanuel Martinez, Cliff King, Chris Vega, and Phillip Wogee.

 

On the women's side it will be Alexandria Stewart, Tigest Nealy, Elizabeth Claustro, Tejera Dial, Kaylie McGrady, Tristanie Bjazevich, Ana Valdovinos, Lauren Carr, Katie Bathgate, Arianna Fuentes, Celinda Manzo, Abby Buckhoff, Amanda Crissinger, Pamela Pelayo, Tenia Sebastian, Brittany Thornton, Katie Wilson, Deena Pierce, Brionna Thompson, Ty'Jalayah Robertson, Taylor Frank, Leah Stevens, Alexis Washington, Bryn Williamson, Kimberly Amaya, Marinella Loyola, Brooke Hardge, Nicolette Garcia, Noel Wong, Jasmyne Davis, Ifunanya Gwacham, Amanda Mercado, Alexandria Kemp, Hannah Terhaar, and Catherine Craig.

Riverside CC Meet

 

Last weekend, the Titans opened up the outdoor season at the Riverside CC quadrangular meet at Wheelock Stadium. Junior Ana Valdovinos and Dalton Hall both won the 3000-meter run with times of 10:27.09 and 8:47.44, respectively.

 

In the javelin throw, Chris Vega took home first place (52.20m), while Phillip Wogee (50.93m) had a performance to remember as well, as he finished right behind Vega in the event.

 

The Titan jumpers had a very succesful day for both the men and women. On the men's side, Malek Walls posted a personal best long jump of 6.91m to take home second place, while Jonathan Tolentino placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.74m. In the high jump, Malik Johnson finished third with a best jump of 2.0m.

 

For the Titan women, Brionna Thompson had a best long jump leap of 4.99m to finish second, while Alexis Washington and Leah Stevens posted a 1.50m high jump to also finish second.

2013 Ben Brown Invite

In the 2013 Ben Brown Invitational, Cal State Fullerton continued its strong start to the 2013 spring season, as both the men and women's teams came in first and third respectively at the Ben Brown Invitational.

The host Titans put up a 137 points on the weekend to edge Big West rivals UC Irvine (124) and Long Beach State (116) on the men's side of things, while the Fullerton women posted 91 points overall as they finished third, just behind USC (182) and Long Beach State (95).
