FULLERTON, Calif. - After a solid showing in its season-opening meet last weekend, Cal State Fullerton now heads to Albuquerque, N.M. where the team will compete in the Cherry and Silver Collegiate hosted by the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque Convention center on Friday and Saturday.

The Titans are sending 18 athletes to New Mexico to compete in 13 different events this weekend. Fullerton will measure how it ranks amongst some of the nation's best schools as Arizona, Arkansas, Cal, Clemson, Houston, Florida State, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas, and USC, will be represented.

New Mexico is also serving as host to the indoor meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center sire of the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15.

The Titans had seven first-place finishes and six second-place finishes in Flagstaff, Ariz., last weekend. Fullerton also had seven freshmen compete for the first time in their collegiate careers.

At the Lumberjack Challenge, freshman Destinee Brown had a strong showing in her collegiate opener as she set a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.43. Brown broke current teammate senior Ashley Sims record of 7.65, which she set during the 2012 indoor track season. The Los Angeles, Calif., native is now ranked 32nd amongst collegiate individuals in the 60m and is the first Titan since Ciera Short to be nationally ranked.

On the track, the Titans were paced by junior Morgan Thompson and senior Katie Wilson in the 200-meter, who ran times of 24.92 and 25.13, respectively. Sophomore Alexis Stewart finished second with a time of 25.29 in the 200-meter dash.

Junior Nicolette Garcia had a strong time in the 60-meter hurdle (9.27), while teammate Tigest Nealy placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.41.

Off the track, Cal State Fullerton was led by junior Amanda Mercado (16.05) and freshman Alexandria Kemp (14.98) in the weight throw as they finished first and second, respectively. In the shot put, freshman Hannah Terhaar finished second with a 10.45m toss and junior Jessica Aguilera placed third courtesy of a 9.72m throw.

The Titans also opened last weekend at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. Junior Kimberly Amaya and freshman Bryn Williamson both competed with Williamson posting a best jump of 3.2 meters to finish tied for seventh, while Amaya had a best jump of 3.0 meters to finish in 12th.
