Titans Beat Occidental, Drop Game to Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's water polo earned their first 10th win in program history with their 11-5 victory over Occidental at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

The Titans were 4-4 on the sprint to gain offensive possession in response to tremendous efforts by Mikka Van Scherr, Delaney Wilder and Kieran Scout Bates.

Kylie Corwin buried the ball into the goal 30 seconds into the game to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Corwin added another goal on the board for the Titans in the third quarter.

Gabrielle Zaretskiy scored on a power play after a pass from Mia Solorzano with over six minutes left in the first period.

Mia Solorzano led the Titans in scoring with four goals. Three of those goals came in the first quarter, one of which was a penalty shot to put the Titans up 5-0.

Jacqueline Naito added to the fire from Stephanie Hidalgo's pass, followed by Wilder's rocket sent into the back of the goal to grab a 7-0 lead at the break.

Exclusions cost the Titans their running shutout, as Occidental scored all five goals on power plays in the second half.

Kieran Scout Bates found the goal on a power play to break double digits before Occidental cut their lead in half at 10-5. Americul Mendoza received the ball from Van Scherr and scored the final goal of the game to secure an 11-5 win.

Pomona-Pitzer 14, Cal State Fullerton 7

The Titans fought hard until Pomona-Pitzer's offense ran away with the lead in the second half.

Zaretskiy led the Titans in the second game, shooting four goals and one assist.

Corwin, Solorzano, and Kieran Scout Bates all added a goal of their own for the Titans in an effort to beat Pomona-Pitzer.

The Titans will continue their road stand this Friday as they visit Azusa Pacific at 3 p.m. PT.
