FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's water polo defeated Toronto 10-4 in its first game of the day before its comeback effort against Biola came up short, falling 11-7 to the Eagles.

Cal State Fullerton 10, Toronto 4 

Toronto scored first against the Titans five minutes into the game before a goal from Stephanie Hidalgo and a deep shot from Mia Solorzano gave Fullerton a 2-1 lead. The Titans built onto their lead, with back-to-back scores from Gabrielle Zaretskiy giving Fullerton a 4-1 advantage. 

Brittney Pino found the back of the net on a power play and Solorzano scored off an assist from Pino to give the Titans a 6-1 lead. Toronto scored a pair of goals before Zaretskiy netted her third of the first half to give Fullerton a 7-3 advantage at the break. 

Toronto scored twice in the third, before Solorzano scored on a penalty shot to give the Titans a 9-4 lead heading into the final period. Zaretskiy netted her fourth goal of the game on a power play in the fourth period as the Titans came away with the 10-4 win. 

Haden Skye Bates notched five saves in goal and a .625 save percentage, while Minami Creamer tallied four saves at a .800 clip. 

Cal State Fullerton 7, Biola 11

Kieran Scout Bates found Von Scherr for a goal before scoring one of her own as the Titans took a 2-1 advantage early in the first period. But Biola took control of the game with a 5-0 scoring run to take a 6-2 lead at the end of the first. Biola scored two more in the second period before Zaretskiy put one in the back of the net from deep just before half, bringing the score to 8-3 for Biola at the break.

The Eagles scored three goals in the third to take an 11-3 lead. Fullerton made a strong comeback effort in the fourth period, with goals from Jacqueline Naito, Brittney Pino, Stephanie Hidalgo and Kylie Corwin capping a 4-0 Titan run. But it was Biola that ultimately came away with the 11-7 win.

The Titans return to action this weekend at the Tina Finali Memorial Tournament on Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th.
