RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's water polo split its doubleheader at California Baptist Thursday evening, suffering a loss to CBU (17-2) before defeating Fresno Pacific (9-8) in the second game. The Titans are now 3-4 on the year.
After suffering a tough defeat to a strong CBU team, the Titans immediately bounced back against Fresno Pacific as they were back in the pool just a couple hours later.
Fullerton fell behind 2-0 in the first two minutes of the game before goals by Mia Solorzano and Delaney Wilder tied the game heading into the second quarter. Solorzano took over in the second quarter, scoring three goals to give the Titans a 5-3 lead at halftime.
Fresno Pacific quickly tied the game at 5-5 in the third before a goal by Kieran Scout Bates in the final minute of the quarter regained the Titan lead.
The two teams exchanged goals in the fourth quarter and with the game coming down to the wire tied 8-8, Wilder scored what would be the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining.
Solorzano led the team with four goals on seven shots while Wilder added three goals and Scout Bates scored two. Haden Skye Bates had a great game in goal for the Titans, recording 12 saves to earn her third win of the year.
The team now returns home to Titan Aquatics Center for its inaugural home opener Saturday, Feb. 4 against Chapman at 1:00 p.m. PT.
