Cal State Fullerton Opens Newly Built Aquatics Complex

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Athletics hosted a grand opening for its newly built aquatics complex Thursday afternoon. 

The opening was a great success with hundreds of Cal State Fullerton students, student-athletes, staff and local community members in attendance. All in attendance got to enjoy snow cones, kettle corn and custom Fullerton towels. 

CSUF President Fram Virjee talked about what a great addition the pool is not only to the athletics department, but also to the kinesiology department along with the students, faculty and staff and the community. 

Cal State Fullerton and the athletics department received certificates of recognition from Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, Senator Josh Newman and Congresswomen Young Kim. 

Athletics Director Jim Donovan thanked everyone who made the aquatics complex possible: CSUF President, Fram Virjee and First Lady Julie Virjee, VP of Student Affairs, Tonantzin Oseguera and her husband, John Harman, Provost, Carolyn Thomas, VP of Advancement, Greg Saks & AVP Carlos Leija, VP of Information & Technology, Amir Dabirian, VP of Administration and Finance, Alex Porter, VP of Human Resources, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, David Forgues, Chief of Staff for the President, Danielle Garcia, Dean, College of Health and Human Development, Dr. Jason Smith, Associate Deans, College of Health and Human Development, Dr. Cindy Greenberg and Dr. Kavin Tsang, Chair, Department of Kinesiology, Dr. Steve Walk, Titan Athletics Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Michael Perez and ASI Leaders and the Student Success initiative, Lydia Kelly (current President), Chris Mikaelian (current Vice President), Isabella Galvan (current Chair of the Board).

The 2023 women's water polo team, all of which were already Cal State Fullerton students before signing up to play on the team, will be the first women's water polo team at Fullerton. 

"As I get to know this group of women, they are strong, they are tough, they are bold and they are not going to give up," said head coach Kyle Witt. "They are working hard everyday and getting better everyday and they are going to continue to make this place proud."

The Titans will open the season Jan. 20 at the UC Santa Barbara Tournament before playing its first home game on Saturday, Feb. 4 against Chapman. 

"We will win championships. We will be successful," Witt said.
