Fullerton, Calif. - It was announced this morning that the Cal State Fullerton volleyball match with nationally-ranked Hawai'i on Nov. 25 (7 p.m.) will be broadcast on ESPN3 (watchespn.com) to kick off a 10-game Big West Conference broadcast package with the network, presented by the Hawai'i Tourism Authority.
The game will mark the final regular season match for both the Titans and Rainbow Wahine and will become the first volleyball match to be broadcast by ESPN from Titan Gym. It will also serve as a preview of what is to come in a new-look Big West, with Hawai'i set to make the conference a 10-team league beginning in July 2012.
Hawai'i is currently 26-1 and heads into the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 21 ranked No. 6 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. They will then likely look to the first and second rounds of the NCAA postseason tournament beginning on Dec. 1.
The Titans are currently 12-15 and will be playing their last Big West match this Friday night against visiting UC Irvine. The Titans made their first postseason appearance in 2010 by virtue of winning the Big West title, but relinquished their crown to postseason staple Long Beach State in 2011.
The Titans and Rainbow Wahine have met 26 times since 1982, but haven't seen each other since 1995. The two teams were in the same conference from 1985-87 (PCAA) and 1988-95 (Big West). Fullerton is winless in all 26 meetings. The Nov. 25 match will be the first visiting to Titan Gym for Hawaii since Sept. 28-29, 1994.
In addition to the post-Thanksgiving volleyball match in Fullerton, the ESPN3 broadcast package will feature two men's and women's basketball games, a men's volleyball match, two baseball games and a softball double-header featuring Long Beach State at Cal State Fullerton. The twin-bill from the Titans' Anderson Family Field will be on May 5 at 4 p.m.
ESPN3 is currently available in more than 70 million households through computers, tablets and smart phones and in 25 million households via Xbox gaming consoles.
