Three Big West Matches on Tap for Volleyball This Week

Fullerton, Calif. - It's a busy and critical week for the Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team, which plays three Big West Conference matches - two against teams ahead of it in the league's standings. The fourth-place Titans visit second-place Long Beach State on Tuesday night and host first-place Cal Poly (No. 23 by AVCA) on Saturday night. On Friday night, seventh-place UC Santa Barbara visits Titan Gym.

VS LONG BEACH STATE: The Titans have struggled against the 49ers, winning just four of the 54 meetings since 1980. Currently, the Titans have dropped the last 49 matches with the cross-town opponent, with their last win coming in 1982, when the swept the two-game season series. Fullerton has not won a game against Long Beach since 2004, when the Titans grabbed a game three 33-31 victory in overtime on Sept. 16.

VERSUS UC SANTA BARBARA: Since 1982 Cal State Fullerton has an all-time record of 2-52 against UC Santa Barbara with its most recent win, a 3-2 victory, coming on Oct. 6 at the Thunderdome. The Titans only other win came last year on Nov. 4, 2006 in a 23-30, 30-25, 30-22, 19-30, 15-10 win at Titan Gym, the first win in 25-year history of the two teams competing.

VERSUS No. 23 CAL POLY: Fullerton has dropped its last 6 meetings against the Mustangs and have a 3-40 all-time record against the foes from the north dating back to their first meeting in 1981. The Titans' last win against the Mustangs came in 2004 at home.

LAST WEEK: The Titans had a light schedule last week, taking on Cal State Bakersfield at home in a non-conference affair at Titan Gym. The Titans were victorious in the three-game sweep (30-22, 30-23, 30-24), as Alex Wolnisty was the only player in the match to record 10-or-more kills, collecting 14. Wolnisty, Brittany Moore and Erin Saddler paced the match with three blocks apiece, as the Titans went on to out-block the Roadrunners 6.0-1.0.

DID YOU KNOW: Fullerton has never had more than six conference victories in the history of the program. Fullerton is currently 5-4 in league action and has seven more opportunities before the end of the regular season. The 2006, 2004 and 1996 teams have all reached the six-win mark.
