Titan Volleyball Adds Three More to 2008 Signing Class

April 23, 2008

Fullerton, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Volleyball team has added three more players to its 2008 roster during the spring signing period, Head Coach Carolyn Zimmerman announced Tuesday afternoon. Courtney Curran, Jennifer Edmond and Andrea Ragan all signed letters of intent and will join Sydney McDowell, who signed during the early signing period in the fall, on the 2008 volleyball team.

"Adding these three players and others to our roster for next season gives us depth at every position," The seventh-year head coach said. "The amount of experience we have in our returning players along with the incoming freshman will put our program on track to compete for an NCAA berth."

Curran, a 6-foot hitter, just finished her senior season at Long Beach Wilson High School where she was a first-team All-Moore League selection in her final season in a Bruin uniform. As a junior, the Long Beach native was a second-team all league selection, and was named to the Long Beach Press Telegram's Dream Team Second Team in 2006. A three-year letterwinner, Curran helped the Bruins to an undefeated league championship season in 2005, reaching the CIF Finals in her first season at the varsity level.

"Courtney brings versatility to the Titans. She is team player, willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to make the team better. Her athleticism and experience playing both middle and outside will help to solidify both of those positions next season," said Zimmerman.

Edmond is a 5-foot, 10-inch right side hitter from Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, Calif. With the Knights, Edmond was a three-time All-Del Rey League honoree, and led her team to the CIF finals in her final season (2007). The Torrance native also received a Daily Breeze All-Area second-team nod her senior season and has played six years of club ball with Mizuno Long Beach.

"Jennifer is a lefty and is an extremely athletic and powerful player that will be a nice compliment to our roster this year. She is coming off of a great year in high school and is competing for a top club in Southern California," Zimmerman said of Edmond.

The third recruit, Ragan, will remain a Titan as she comes from Nipomo High School (also nicknamed the Titans) in Nipomo, Calif. The 5-foot-6 Arroyo Grande native was a two-time, first-team All-Los Padres League setter also earning All-San Luis Obispo County recognition all both season of volleyball. Ragan, a scholar athlete, also lettered and earned all-league honors in two seasons for the Nipomo High School soccer team in 2005 and 2006.

Zimmerman added, "Andrea brings much needed depth to the setting position. She is an experienced setter that does not back down to challenges. She is a hard working, efficient player who has great court vision and a good sense for the game."

Both Edmond and Curran have earned bids to compete for a medal in the Open Division at the USA Junior Olympics this summer with their respective club programs.

The Titans are currently preparing for their fourth and final Spring tournament, this week at Loyola Marymount.
